I stopped by the local Gander Mountain every now and then, sometimes decent deals, a lot of time overpriced firearms. Anyways, they have a rack of Mosins I believe that they were either 38s or 44s, looked clean and were on sale for $100.00. I know that if you have a C and R License they are a lot cheaper, but since I don't have one yet, is this a decent deal for a Mosin? I already have a Tula 91/30, but would like to get some more.

Yeah, that is a decent deal, although you can get them cheaper if you look harder. Go to gun shows and gun shops and you'll find one cheaper. $100 isn't too bad, though. Not ridiculous.

Gander Mtn in Scranton area had 44's for $129 initially. They were in real fine shape. Since we don't have many if any around in the area, I bought two. They went up to $149. Also they later had a 91/30. Again not too many in the area. So I paid the $149 for it. It too is a nice one. I don't have the C&R that I would like. They came with all the accesorries. I'm a firm believer in having one is more important than price, especially if condition is good and the price is not that outrageous.

Prices vary widely

Ad in my local paper Friday, Big 5 store, M44 for $79.99, regular $179.

If these old Russian bolt guns are what you like, get them while you can, cause the price isn't going to go down over the long run. After the cheap ones get sold, the only way you are going to find a deal is from a private party sale.

It is going to be interesting how popular these old guns remain when the cheap ammo goes away. And it will. Some of it already has.

I have 3 rifles that shoot 7.62x54R, a couple of Moisins and an SVT 40 Tokarev. While I do have a stock of surplus ammo laid in, I make it a point to get 1 box of reloadable ammo every time I go to a gun show. I already have the dies. And it uses the same bullets as my .303 British and 7.7 Jap. I haven't started loading for the Russian round yet, but when the time comes, I'll be set. Recommend you do the same.

$100 isn't bad for an M44 or an M38. If you can find an M38 with a real M38 stock and not an M44 stock, (The 44 stock has a small notch where the tip of the folded bayonet goes, the 38 stock doesn't have that notch) grab it, or them if you find more than one. They aren't rare but they are fairly uncommon and will fetch more than $100 from a collector.

Depends on the M-N. Run of the mill M44s or 91s? LAFF. Was it a Finn? Was it a sniper?

Not a bad deal, but you could do better. A buddy of mine bought a pristine 1938 for $60! The deals are out there.
i missed out on a sweet all matching Polish M44 for 60$ :(

100$ isnt bad. its not wholesale, but its still better than my local marker price of about 120$

the M38 would be a sweeter deal. but it will have been rearsenaled. not a bad thing. just something you should know.

that is a nice price for either, Gander also sells a matching number's camo jobbed 44 , here in houston, for 150, very nice looking, as well.

My GM has 91/30's with the camo stock and different front sight for $150. M44's are $100.

I have to admit, those camo jobs are pretty slick if you're looking for a cheap hunting rifle.

There was a thread around here somewhere saying that Cabela's was selling ''Sniper Style'' Mosin's in that price range.

Since close to 30,000,000 were made and the US is one of the only countries in the world that imports them I don't think the supply is drying up any time soon. While a fine rifle IMO they were only the fourth best standard combat rifle of WWII.

Went with Buddy and his Son to Ventura Gun Show (He bought from private party a 1946 Izzy Mosin Nagant M44 with correct new in Pkg.NCstar MuzzleBrake, decent M44 Booklett,20 rds. Greek 7.62x54Ammo,an icorrect new Chinese SKS sling with leather tab ends (I kept that) all for $85.00 (No process fee) and we found a Pristine Correct Mosin "Dog Collar" sling for an extra $20.00 !

i'd pay 100 for it, i have a C&R but bought mine from a local gunshop anyway. i think i paid right around a 100 OTD, but it was already de-cosmo'd and came with some surp ammo.

I don't feel cheated at all. it's a lot of fun. lay into a bit of ammo though, i got about a case and a half of it, but it is a fun gun to shoot.
