I recently bought an M44 at Big 5 for next to nothing - just had to get it. I haven't gotten around to shooting it, work keeps interfering with play.

I decided to dry fire it today just to get a feel for the trigger. Weird! After cocking it sometimes the trigger is amazingly light (almost a hair trigger to the point of being somewhat scary), occasionally it feels like working a grip exerciser to get it to release. It's about an average of 4-5 really light pulls to 1 really gnarly heavy pull. There is just no consistent letoff.

This bothers me to the point where I figure I should take it to a gunsmith for an opinion, but first - I was wondering if anyone here had encountered the same situation and knew what the remedy might be?

I don't have your problem, but I do have a problem with my trigger as well. When the bolt isn't cocked the trigger is pretty good and kinda stiff. When you cock the bolt I have about 1/2 in of free travel. You could just jiggle it around. The let off seems pretty good though. I'm just botherd by the jiggling in the trigger.

Whoa, Zeke - that's a great looking trigger, but it costs almost as much as I paid for the rifle!

Don't get me wrong, I really do appreciate the link. Now I'm going to have to fork out the cash to make this thing all that it can/should be. I guess you get what you pay for...

Thanks for the help, now I'm going to have to go sell a gallon of blood to finance my new must-have trigger.
