Mosin to 308 convert

Saw one at the last Chantilly gun show, but as the old saying goes, "You get what youse pays for".. Even a clean one was a pretty shabby piece of merchandise, not something I would care to pass on to my kids.

At this point I'm leaning towards a 400 buck Mossberg rifle/scope combo with real wood for the stock. I just need to find a Wallyworld that has one in .308.

after studying this for a few days ,because i just happen to have a mosin that i'm about to rebarrel with a .308 bore heavy target barrel in the original 7.62x54r, the only real problem i can see with converting the mosin to .308win. is the cutout in the bolt body for the ejector. the bolt body is already about .025 thick there & would have to be cut clear through to clear an ejector that would stick out far enough to hit the rim of a 308 or similar size case. without making a new bolt body thats slightly smaller i.d. i don't think it could be done safely.
if you look at a 308 case beside a 7.62x54r they are very close to the same size except for the rim.
.308 & 6.5x55 swede will both fit in the magazine & cylce through the action, if i ever fighure out how to make the ejector work i'll build me a 6.5x55 mosin

New barrel, alot of the innards are machined from a hogout. Rebed everything and test, test, test until you have reasonably reliable system. Like I said... stealthy. Stealthy and cheap aren't two words that are usually associated. But I did it to shut up alot of the rifle snobs at the shoots.
good luck
