Hello,
I'm looking for a good bolt action rifle that doesn't cost too much. I was thinking about getting either a Mossberg 100 ATR or maybe a Savage-Stevens 200. Is either one much better than the other? Thanks.

I'm a big Mossy fan, but the Stevens will be better for upgrading down the road. Otherwise, they are both great rifles.

i would suppose that the stevens may be more accurate, but that would be pure speculation, and I have hear many moa results with the mossy. i will however give the mossy the edge in other categories; comes with a freefloated, semi pillar bedded stock, a better synth stock, an better camo stock, comes with built in sling swivels, also I see their newest version has sites.
and the new mossy 4x4 looks even better.

Stevens 200 just because of the aftermarket support for these rifles. The sky is just about the limit on what you can do with these rifles. With the Savage/Stevens rifles you can swap out barrels to another caliber in minutes also.

There are very few options to upgrade/customize the Mossberg.

I was asking the same question the other day and I looked at a Mossy ATR and found that I hated the safety on it. It felt like cheap sheet metal with some bluing thrown on top. I'm sure it works just fine, but I think that could have inmproved in that one area and added an extra 0.50 to the price of the gun. Other than that, I really liked the Mossy for a beater gun that I wasn't afraid to mess up. YMMV. I will going to the gun shop down the road from me this weekend or late next week and take a look around. I'll see if they have a Stevens I can look at.
