Hello all, last year I bought a Mossberg 100 ATR in 270 win, my initial impressions were that it was a nicely designed gun for the money with the bedded stock, crowned barrel protection and lightning trigger. Any good or bad experiences with it?
I have a Mossberg ATR-100 in .30-06, 2004 vintage. In MY hands with inexpensive soft-point commercial ammo (read as Rem Core-Lokt), it will hold under 2" @100Yds, 5 shots.
Shooting Budd with much younger & steadier hands than me got a bit under 0.7" w/Federal 168-Gr Gold Medal match ammo, 5 shots.
Might do a bit better with a better scope, too. Current scope is a Simmons "Blazer" 3-9x50 variable.
I've had 2 Mossberg ATR's. Both were fine hunting rifles. My only problem was that the barrels heated up and POI moved as much as 6 inches in five rounds. Once zeroed for a cold barrel they were good for hunting but no fun for range day.
They are very accurate with a cool barrel (my 30'06 would do sub-MOA for sure), but walk the shots around a lot as the barrel warms. Basically, what the Deputy said...
