I'm looking at a used Mossberg 500, ducks unlimited 12ga at Cabela's It's in very good shape, bluing is 90-95%, a few small scratches/dings on the stock, one 1" scratch on the forearm.

They're asking 250 for it. I'm real tempted, but can buy a brannew Walmart one for 210. I like the darker wood & different forearm shape on the Cabelas one though

Are they asking too much, or is it worth it?

Thanks!!
Dan

Probably worth it if you think wood and bluing is worth it. I personally think it is worth it and would opt for wood and bluing over black plastic any day.

"...Ducks Unlimited..." That's why the price is a bit higher.
"...I like the darker wood & different forearm shape..." That worth $40 to you? It's the same gun otherwise. Scratches and dings are easily fixed.

I got mine, with wood furnature, smooth bore barrel, 3 chokes (imp, mod, and full), trophy slug (rifled, integrated pic. rail), and scope for 290. Check for a local dicks, when they have a sale.. you can usually get a pretty good price. I paid 40 more than the cabelas price for a new gun and a spare barrel (about 120 for it seperately).

Thanks for the replies! I went ahead & got it, I think it was a reasonable deal - not a steal, but not a either.

I tried to get them to go down to 225, but they said no - but then there's a special going on at Cablea's, if you buy more than $150, they'll give you 30 cabela's bucks that can be applied at purchase!

Sooo, 220 for the gun, $10 for some A-Zoom snap caps & tax, and I'm out the door for less than the price on the tag.

I took it all apart & cleaned it real good. Looks nice.

I'm happy. Now I gotta find me an 18" barrel just for fun! ;)
