I have had a Mossberg 590 with 20 inch tube and ghost ring sights for about 4 years now. In the past I used the gun at several 3 gun matches where birdshot was the norm as well as the occasional slug. I had no problems but I did not shoot the gun that much.
About three weeks ago I took my 590 to the range to sight in some slugs and pattern some new low recoil 00 buckshot. In 6 rounds or so of 12 gauge slugs the guns safety flipped out of line twice. After pumping the action the weapon would not fire though the safety appeared to be off. A slight nudge of the safety was rewarded with a click and the gun would then go bang after a trigger pull.
Went back last week and did it again to see if it would repeat. 30 rounds of slugs and 12 failures of the safety. I had made sure the tang safety was tight. Still caused problems due to the heavy slug recoil.
I have put the Remington 870 back in the closet while the mossy's fate is decided. Any one have some similar problems with the 590? Any suggestions?
