Mossberg 9200 problems

2 shotguns, same problemS.

First I bought about 8 years ago. Immediately had problems with double feeds and jams. 2 rounds would feed into the receiver jamming the action. Gunsmith at Gander worked on it and it was more reliable but still with occ problems doing same. Now is having some feed issues with sheel hanging up short of the chamber as well.

My brother bought one several years ago. He liked mine and bought his against my advice. After about 700shells approx started doing same thing with double feeds. No problems until first major disassembly and cleaning(as per manual). Now not chambering reliablly either--same as mine.

Any way this could be related to reassembly?
I am well versed in cleaning, disassembly and reassembly of weapons. Been doing so for decades but this really has me stumped.

My brother's gun has an action spring that is about 1"shorter than mine if that matters.

Hard to find parts anyhow and Mossberg won't ship me anything I ask for nor will they let me talk to a tech. I just want info to start with. Shipping the thing is going to cost me more than it may cost to solve problem. I will probably do so with my brother's gun but if anyone has any ideas as to problem or solution let me know. With 2 guns having the same issues there must be others having same problems. I know they quit making these so I suspect the guns have issues.

Follow the diagram on the top of the magazine tube exactly and double sure all those parts are in the right sequence.
That is indeed the cause of 99% of the feed problems with these guns.
The 9200 was replaced with the better, more versatile, Model 935 3 1/2" guns after a 4 year run of lackluster sales, not because of any reliability issues.
It still marvels me that folks got along with the Browning Auto 5/ Remington 11/ Savage 720 as long as they did. (90 years before it was finally phased out.)

I've double, triple, quadruple checked that. Mine has been disassembled plenty of times.
Could the way the pins for the trigger group go in affect reliability?
I don't think they will go in more than one way though.

I might know the solution for 9200

I've got this shotgun 2 weeks ago, and I think I was able to figure it out what is wrong with it, and more, how to fix it. I maybe even know why some people next to never had a problem, but others ready to toss this auto from day one. The problem I've discovered is greatly depends on the shoting/handling style, and even oiling/cleaning habits. I personally prefer my guns dripping oil(overoiled), which is not really good in the field, ok on the range. That helped me to pinpoint the problem. At this moment I've applied temporary solution, but I'm looking for expirienced gunsmith to apply permanent solution in exchange to my description of what needs to be done. If Mossberg interested to recall the gun for inexpensive repair, I would gladly share with them. Only small part of the gun need to be shipped.

Yep, never had a problem with my 9200, other then having to replace the little rubber "O" ring, and that was only after many thousands of rounds through it.

I'd love to hear gchernya's solution.

9200's seem to be either "Greatest Thing Since Sliced Bread" or "Worst POS I Ever Owned." And the verdict tends to come early in the relationship.

Hmmmm, works just fine until taken apart, then won't work right......Hmmmmm.

I suspect that most of the problems with 9200's are caused by improper re-assembly", but I may be wrong.

I agree that the onset of problems after reassembly is suspicious but stripping and reassembling a 9200 is not a complicated process and I have plenty of experience with guns of all kinds.

If someone has a solution I would sure like to actually hear it.

I did end up sending my brother's gun into Mossberg and he shot about a box of shells thru it without problem. No mention what they did, they wouldn't tell me anything, wouldn't let me talk to a gunsmith or get any parts and they don't let anyone else get parts I wanted incl Numrich. Really soured me to Mossberg and I won't buy another. In any event my brother's gun is working. For now. And mine sits in a cabinet, I have 2 Benellis I use now. No problems with those.....
Where I live, there are a lot of predators, I hunt alone generally, and I need something that goes bang every time I squeeze the trigger.

I suspect they changed out the shell stop(s) and/or springs. I looked it over and couldn't tell what they did though.
