Mossberg 930 home security vs "tactical", where to buy?

Any disadvantage to one of these models vs the other? I don't care about the breacher barrel one way or the other but I do like the flat finish better. How is that device attached to the barrel?

Anyone with these in stock for a decent price? I see some of the tactical models on gunbroker, but can't find any basic home security guns or home security combos.

Okay, the breacher/brake on the tactical model is a permanent part of the barrel. It'll make the gun obnoxiously loud with no real advantages, unless you're gonna be breaching doors.

I'd get the home security model. If you want a flat finish on it, just hit it with some matte Krylon or get it Ceracoated or Duracoated.

Overall I like Mossberg shotguns. Don't know why they make some such strange models. Like the "chainsaw". I guess I do know why, its marketing and they sell. Suppose that subsidizes the models I like so...bring on the zombie breaching chainsaw for someone else!.

I'd just like the home security model. Although I like the JM Pro now that I check it out...

I never knew Muzzle Breaks and ports add to the loudness. What's the science behind it?

I gotta agree regarding the Chainsaw. Who would buy that thing and what would you use it for? You can't even aim it correctly. You almost have to fire it from the hip.

The overall noise level doesn't change, it's just that it directs the blast back towards you, resulting in more noise at your end.

Think of it like the speaker on most cell phones (which is in the back of the phone). Without changing the volume, you can hear it better and louder by facing your phone towards you.

good friend'o'mine has the HD model without the brake. I have fired it a few times pretty sweet. smooth shooting gun.

Have one that I had problems with. Sent it back to factory and they are installing a new gas piston and barrel. Like the shooter. Smooth with very little recoil thanks to the gas operation.

The breacher barrel is useless for most people. Are you on a SWAT team and going to use the shotgun to blow off door locks? It's rather jagged and I'd be worried about cutting my hand on it.

I'd get the one without the breacher thingy personally. As to where to find one, well it's a bad time to be trying to find anything tactical so you if you gotta have one right now then you jump on GB and pay the price. Remember, all the other folks that don't have one suddenly want one too.

You can sign up on Davidsons Gallery of guns to be notified by email when they are in stock, but you only have a couple of minutes max to get online and buy it when the email shows up, and that means getting very lucky. Most of the tactical shotguns also show up as allocated which means they are already ordered by a dealer when they arrive. You might try having a dealer, or even Walmart order one for you, that might be the fastest way to get one now.

930s are generally unavailable around here, other than the SPXs, so that's what I ended up with. I do love it, though.

930 SPX is still in stock.

I don't have a breacher choke on my HD shotgun but we do have them on our department shotguns. I can think of another use for them besides just breaching doors.

Before the big panic, I saw a nice 930 spx with ghost ring sights at Scheels. I think it was around the $450 range (I don't quite recall because I couldn't afford it at the time). I don't remember if it had the breacher barrel. It was nice though, the action was smooth, and didn't feel too heavy up front. It felt more manuverable than my Mossberg 500.

I think if you get the 5 shot "Combo" model, both barrels use the Accu Choke and you can get a breacher choke tube for the short barrel...might be the best of both worlds?
