...I would really like to upgrade the charging handle.
The one pictured in BKJeffery's post looks great. Any info on obtaining one like that would be appreaciated BK.
I have also seen a supposed upgrade right from Mossberg.
I have seen the Choat model and The NOB that can't be tracked down.
It seems those posters are M.I.A.
Flat Iron forge has a good looking model but can't get them to answer the phone....

Is there someone else who has any practical experience with the 930 forearm and its high sights?

I have this shotgun and tried your "eyes closed" mount. Both time, I opened my eyes and was perfectly aligned with the LPA sights.

Mine was problematic initially cycling the cheap low brass shells.

A quick chamber polish has it running like a raped ape now.

Good piece that I'm looking forward to running in the next 3 gun match. Hopefully humble a few of the nay-sayers.

ahh, my charging handle was built by me. It was an AK Gas piston. I just cut it to the appropriate length, filed the last inch or so flat and used a few smaller jewelers files to match the fatcory bolt handle's detent notch. It cost me 15 bucks and about two hours of manual labor.

All I did then was sandblast it and spray it with KG Gun Kote. I guess regular spray paint would hold up pretty good too.

An SPX is definitely on my short list. Actually it's one of the next 2 guns I plan on purchasing! :)

Thanks for the input folks.
I have seen the ETA bolt handle. It may be the one I turn to since I don't have gunsmithing skills.
I am getting too old to wait for things as well. : - )

I've tried to contact ETA by phone several times. Just get the machine and a Congo war song. I'm a little hesitant to do business with someone that you can't talk to.
I saw on one site that they had a combo price for the bolt & safety.
Can't find it on their site and would like to know about it.

there was somebody who had a buncha problems with their 930 and said they were dealing with Mossberg customer service...what ever happened with that???

I've had no problem with the front sight being too high, although I have heard a few complaints about it from other people. The primary problem with the SPX front sight has been canting to one side.Lots of complaints about this, and Mossberg has had to send out a lot of new barrels because of it.
Fortunately, mine does not have the cant as I received it.

I aquired mine in August of '09 from an individual who had only put 12 rounds through it. I have run it since then without cleaning or lubrication of any kind, and have to date had no malfunctions at all.

There are a few things I am not satisfied with that could be improved on.
One is the design of the Choate extension.I have had Choate extensions for years but none were made like this one. Experimentation with this gun as a fighting gun has revealed a few things. The end piece on the Coate extension can be bumped against something and knocked slightly out of alignment which will cause the spring to bind up and fail to feed rounds from the mag tube. This is an annoyance when it occurs and mine will be replaced with a closed end extension.

The very short cupped follower is a problem waiting to happen if the magazine tube is not kept free of grit. You will get some dirt, grit, etc.in the mag tube when loading especially loading on the move and doing drills with this weapon. The mag tube should be cleaned when the rest of the gun is cleaned.
Longer non binding aftermarket followers are available which virtually eliminate this problem but may reduce capacity by one round depending on the particular brand. When the standard follower binds up due to grit it gives the same effect as the extension problem and the rounds won't feed from the tube. A healthy bump against the ground on the buttstock will usually free it up but you may not have time for that and this should not happen.

A better designed charging handle from the factory is needed.Pretty good aftermarkets are available, but why can't (or why won't) Mossberg do it.
I love this shotgun. It feels like it was carved out especially for me as it came from the factory. It is utterly reliable, the magazine follower and extension being the only causes for concern, really. I'm talking hard use here,in training, not just shooting.
This shotgun, with just a few minor tweaks from the factory, has the potential to be one of the best autoloading combat shotguns ever made.
I like mine well enough to keep it and address and correct the potential problems, but wouldn't it be nice if Mossberg would do it for us?

Nope. It's a test. I plan to reward it with a good cleaning and lube sometime after the July 4th weekend. :D

special tool

Well, I recieved my Charging handle and safety from ETA today.
I am a little bumfuzzled with the stock screw that holds the original 930 safety in place.:(
I am sure it is made the way specifically. Edges are beveled to cause difficulty in removing it.
Maybe some of you gun pros can help a newbie out on this.
Thanks in advance for any help.

The easiest way is to use a new screwdriver (or, one with really sharp edges). Put the gun in a well padded vise (so the finish doesn't get messed up) to hold the gun steady. Then bear down hard, the sharp edges of the screwdriver should "bite" and the screw will come right out.... or, you can use a dremel tool to cut a slot for a screwdriver.

If you don't want to get "fancy", you can use vise grips and break the old safety out, then unscrew the screw with the vise grips once the safety is out of the way....

Thanks Smitty,
I vised it and used a thin flat nosed punch on one of the beveled edges to start it movin'.
No damage to original parts.
It's a good thing someone told me to watch out for the ball bearing. I wouldn't have known where that came from. I can just imagine it falling down into the trigger assembly.

I feel that the ETA additions will work out fine on the 930.
