I did a few searches on this fine forum and didn't find anything on this rifle, just the SS1s. anyone have one or have exp. with one?

it was $244 at Walmart,a nd for a bolt action, blued 30-06 in a synthetic stock, with scope bases, it seemed like a great deal. I'm very happy with my Mossberg 835 and 9200, so I'm kinda interested in this one, but wanted some feedback just in case.

It looked like the barrel was on similar to a Savage, but at the receiver it didn't look like a barrel nut like their 10/110 bolt action.

thanks for any help

i'm going to roll by tomrrow and look. i'll compare it to the Howa stainless they have in rack beside it. all i know it was a mossberg bolt in 30-06, blue, synthetic stock, 22" tube...with scope bases attaced for $244 and some change..

i looked on mossie's website and found this...
http://www.mossberg.com/model100atr.htm

it has to be the ATR...not bad from a MSRP of $382 to $244 and some change..

If you're looking for a bsic hunting rifle, that sounds like a good deal. Howa doesn't make bad rifles, nor does Savage itself.

The old '06 will pretty much take any game animal in North America this side of the big Alaskan bears. (They'll take a Brownie, but you gotta hope there are no glitches in the deal.)

I have a Mossberg ATR-100 in .30-06. So far, so good. Mine is the synthetic stock and 'parkerized' finish. Shoots better than me...will hold 1.5" @100 Yds...probably better than that with steadier hands than mine behind the trigger. I have hit a 3-shot 100-Yd 0.75" with Fed 168-Gr "Gold Medal Match" ammo

Pretty good thumper on both ends with the heaver loads (180-Gr & 220-Gr ammo).

I haven't pulled the action out of the stock, but it is the 2-screw with threaded barrel and locknut assembly, similar to some of the Savage 10/11 series rifles.

I have no experience with the Mossberg, but what I have heard is favorable. That said, I've owned a Howa .270 and it MORE than met my expectations. I believe Timney now makes an aftermarket trigger for the Howa. Good luck on whichever you choose...let us know how your choice works out..............Essex County

Rifle magazine just gave it a great review. They say it is one of the best out of the box triggers, falling only to the Savage and their accutrigger. The barrel is free floated. One of the comparison guns was the Remington 710 and the only category that it topped the Mossy in was price (due to the scope combo deal). I will probably be looking at this one in the 30.06 mode soon.
