Hi, does anyone know if the plastic forend of the maverick 88 comes off? I really want to purchase the 88 and throw on some wood. That is the only thing holding me back besides the Remington 870 12ga.

I see wood forends on ebay for an 870, but the shotgun is $305 after tax and the maverick is only $205 after tax.

Does it have the standard forend nut like the others in the 500 series? It should be on the front side of the foregrip. Its round and has 2 notches in it. Unless they did that difforently, then I dont know. Good luck.

I know that the whole forward grip comes out when you field strip it, but I've never looked inside the grip to see if it was screwed in/riveted... But, I've been told that if you can buy it for the 500 series, you can buy it for the Maverick 88 and it will fit (Except the trigger group, that's the only difference)

The other thing to note is that Early Mav 88's only had one slide bar instead of two, you should know which one you have before you try to replace anything. I believe the single slide bar models were incompatible with the 500's for the slide, but I may be wrong there.

I apologize if any of my nomenclature is wrong :p

While it is a bugger to pull off as it is on real tight, if it has the spanner nut it will swap and it will swap with a 500. Been there done that to mine already and it was a 500 woo forestock I put on. Just make sure you have the one with the right internal length.
havlin sales has lots of nice furniture in stock.

Maverick shotguns use a one piece rivited forend/action tube assembly.

To add a wooden forend you will need to purchase a 6 7/8" action tube assembly, a forend nut, and of course, the wooden forend.

Forends, be they Maverick or Mossberg, will interchange as ASSEMBLIES.

All the items needed can be purchased from Havlin Sales as noted.
They are great folks to deal with.
