Hello!

I'm new to THR and to the community of firearms. I will be picking up my first firearm on wednesday, the Mav.88. I've already shot my buddy's 590 multiple times, so I know that the 14" LOP with a limbsaver is a tad bit too long for me to comfortably cycle quickly. I recently found a Mossberg 500c Bantam wood stock for sale at a great price (my little secret! But you probably already know where) and do not want to pass it up.

My concern is fitment. The seller does say that it will fit a 12 ga with "no noticable gap". Does anyone have any experience swapping out their stock 88/500/590 stock with a 500c bantam stock? The13" LOP is what's selling it to me, as I plan to put a Limbsaver on it as well. Should I "pull the trigger" (how many times have you guys read this?) on this stock, or save up and buy the Hogue 12"LOP overmold? Remember though, WOOD STOCK! you can never go wrong with wood.

Any response is appreciated. I hope to give and take positive and useful information to this forum in the future, and thanks in advanced!

Kevin

As the owner of the Mav 88, I can tell you if it's designed to fit a Mossy500, it will fit your Mav 88. I've swapped stocks from my mav 88 to my mossy 500 and back, swapped the factory stock to the ATI 6 point stock and back.

Swap away, the fit will be fine.

Welcome to THR.

ETA: I know 12 gauge to 12 gauge will fit, and I'm pretty sure 20 gauge to 12 gauge will fit. But if you're talking about the Bantam .410, I don't think it will fit without having some problems. So as long as that 500c Bantam stock is for the 12 or 20, you'll be good to go.

Thanks usaf. I know that the mossberg and maverick Share almost the same parts. My main concern is the difference in gauge. Does that mean the receivers from the twelve and twenty be different?

Thanks again for the swift reply!

If memory serves, the 12 and 20 gauge receivers are only hairs width different. so little so the swapping of stocks works without problem. Most Mossberg aftermarket products say they will fit the 12 gauge and 20 gauge. If your 500c Bantam stock is for the 20 gauge, and you want to put it on your 12 gauge Mav 88, you should be okay.
