I have a mosin that slugs .311, a 7.62x39 at .310, an arisaka at .312 and a krag that is .312 in the middle and like .309 at the ends and all of them shoot .308 bullets just as well or better. Not saying that is always the case, but my 4 rifles are all unbothered.
I suppose it couldn’t hurt to load a few rounds up and find out.

Same here, I've never had .308" bullets shoot "badly" in a .303" bore.

Me thinks that a bullet that is undersized, but long for caliber will shoot a little better in an undersized bore. Perhaps a 200 grain .308" bullet would shoot very well in a .303" bore, or better than a 123-125-130 grain bullet. ? Just guessing. I think I heard that somewhere. Makes sense anyhow.

I thought that would be the case as well, figured the longer bearing surface would help, but it doesn’t seam to make much difference for me.

I put a couple through the wringer and for an economy gun they are not bad. Not crazy about the synthetic stock and the sloppy bolt, but the guns work and work cheap. I played with a 308 for awhile and it shot MOA with handloads. Sighted in a friends 30-06 that would do 1 1/2" three shot groups with Federal Fusions. Recoil, however, was more than my 300 WSM. The walnut stocked guns are a bargain.
