Do you have an Academy store nearby? Their Mossberg prices are usually pretty hard to beat.

Rock solid shotgun, but for this price you should be able to buy it brand new, with box, manual, etc. I would try to bargain it down from the pawn shop. Maybe $270-280.

You really ought to check out my guide for pawnshop prices...

One is that a shotgun with a HD length barrel will fetch no less than $300. No matter what the condition. For some reason, an 18" barrel and an extended mag tube make it special...

I typed it up in a response to another thread. Here it is:

There are pawnshops and gunshops around here that automatically think that
1) A beatup, rusty shotgun with an 18.5 inch barrel- $350, at least
2) Above with mag extension +$100
3) A shotgun with a PG +$100
4) A shiny shotgun (marine version)- astronomically increased in price- +$350-$400 to choice (1)

Somewhat too high, but Mossberg makes good solid serviceable shotguns.

Offer $250 out-the-door.

i bought a mossberg 500 20" parkerized with a pistol grip and 7+1 tube for $225. Hang in there, you can find a better deal!

Parkerizing is a specific finish using boiling Phosphoric acid that leaves the weapon kind of a greenish matte. Other methods have been generically called Parkerizing.

Watch Big 5's ads. They have Persuaders for about $240 new at least once or twice a month. A 590 is about $80-90 more.

I would also check for one in a gun show. In my area I have seen some very decent prices on the shotguns in general, and on Mossbergs specifically. If you order on-line don't forget to factor the transfer fee (which can be anywhere from $20 to $50 depending on the dealer and the area).

What "Franchise/Chain" sporting goods stores are in your area?

Dick's Sporting Goods has a big sale going right now, with some NEW Mossbergs under $300. Gander Mountain and Cabellas are also decent places to look, most of the time [special sales, etc] Not sure if Dunham's Sporting Goods exists in your locale, but they frequently have both Mossbergs and Mavericks on sale.
