What is the most accurate (rested on bench), common, high capacity combat type 9mm auto loading pistol? This would exclude exotic pistols such as the Sig X5, Sig 210, S&W 952, Custom pistols, etc. I am talking about the normal gun shop Berettas, CZ's, Glocks, H&K's, S&W's, Walthers, etc.

skinwmexico: I was going to ask the same question. I consider my kahr pm9 a combat defense gun but would never be my choice for any type of bench shooting, unless I was up against another PM9. Not sure the poster meant that way either..

The 9mm Kimber I used to have was probably the best grouping 9mm pistol I've ever owned. My CZ SP-01 would be a close second, with the edge to the SP-01 when it comes to fast multiple shots and such.

My S&W 915 is accurate, tough, safe, and pretty sext too. It groups as well as my hand allows. I am currently looking for a good carry gun and shooting anything else stinks of infidelity.

Skinewmexico,

I really don't think that "bench rest accuracy" and "combat type" being mentioned in the same sentence is an oxymoron. I don't know about you, but I am always curious about the mechanical accuracy of just about any firearm I purchase.

For instance, My H&K USP 9mm will group tighter than my G19 off a rest at 25 yards, but both will shoot between 2" - 3" (while rested) with most ammo. I just purchased a Taurus 24/7 pro that shoots rested groups that range between 8" - 10" at 25 yards - not impressive.

I am just wondering which common pistols produce the best "mechanical accuracy".

My Browning Hi Power is my most accurate centerfire handgun followed closely by my CZ-75B abd HK P7M8.

I'd say a standard Sig P226 would do pretty well with accuracy.

Another option would be the Glock 34, though that may not be fair as it's designed more for competition. If that's the case, then go with a G17.

The Sig 226 and CZ-75 have been extremely accurate for me. Hard to beat combat reliability and near target grade accuracy in the same gun.

I know first hand these 2 can deliver.

Guns and Ammo did a test in 1993, where they compared all the current 9mm's of that time. I had it laying around until a few years ago.

I remember it was a Glock 19, CZ 75, Witness, Taurus 92, Beretta 92, some Colt, 2 compact Smiths, Star,

I remember that the Beretta was the only one to yield sub 2" groups.

Being that said, we now have Glock 34's, Witness Match Elite's, Single Action CZ's, All I'm sure are very accurate. I can't shoot great past 50 free hand anyway, so who cares.

SureThing, I used a pillow, and the extent of the indoor range I go to is 45 feet or 15 yards. It was all the way back. I was testing the POA on my new Heinie Straight Eight night sights. They are right on. I'm not capable of that kind of accuracy standing up at that distance. I don't know how these guys on the forum get 1" @ 25yds, but I couldn't do it even with a brace.

That is the TRUTH. The 915 has a bit of a dangerfield no respect aura around it but it just works and balances better than anything else I have in my hand. It is my go to hand gun.

The Danes still have Sig 210 as standard issue, although it is not
hi-cap. THe CZ 75B and variants use the same rails inside the frame
design which contribute to it's rep for accuracy in a service pistol.

I know this is a 9MM discussion, but if you're willing to entertain same concept in a .40 S&W, you gotta take a looksee at the Springfield XD(M). I got one two weeks ago, and it's just lights-out accurate. That advertised match-grade barrel ain't just for show, I can assure you!
