I am hoping to get some input. I will soon be in the market for a new gun. I have had a Glock 23 and now a Glock 27. With hundreds of rounds through each I have never had one malfunction of any kind!!

What other guns have you found with that kind of dependability? This can be in a compact or a full size gun.

As a brand, SIG Sauer has been the most reliable to me, closely followed by Beretta. Glocks are very reliable, but I've had a few FTF/FTE issues with both a G32 in .357SIG, and a G19 in 9mm. I've only ever had one Beretta hang up on me, and that was an FTE in a Model 9000S in 9mm. The dozen or so SIGs I've owned have had a 0% failure rate.

That said, all guns are mechanical devices and as such prone to failure. There's not a single brand or make of handgun that hasn't had a failure of some kind in some owner's hands.

Beretta
HK
SIG
Glock
Walther
Ruger

Pretty much in that order as far as my personal experience goes with several models of each. All are solid performers but Beretta's open top system seems to be about the most reliable semi-auto I have seen. I have never had an HK malfunction on me. I have only had a SIG malfunction on me twice ever and this is a pretty big sample size. Glocks seem to have more problems then the above but are much more durable. Walthers seem to be hit or miss you get either a perfect one or one that has minor issues. Rugers as a lot are very very reliable but not quite up to the others.

My two cents.

Ohhh and I am a SIG guy through and through and that is by far my largest sample size.

My father has a Jennings, but I'm not going to tell you to head out and buy one. LOL. I guess he just got a lucky one. Whatever you decide to buy, keep it cleaned and you shouldn't have any problems.

Yup. Agreed.

For what it is worth, here are my "have never failed ME guns." (In autoloader flavor -- the list of revolvers is way too long!).

Sig 239 -- 9mm
Sig 220 -- .45 acp
S&W 3913 -- 9mm
Beretta 92fs -- 9mm
BHP -- 9mm
Colt WWI reproduction 1911 -- .45 acp
Ruger P90 -- .45 acp
Glock 19 -- 9mm

SIG's have been mighty good too me also. I'm very happy to report a 0
failure rate with any SIG-SAUER Classic P-series self-loader. ;)

Come too think of it, the same can be said of my Glock's, Bersa, and
Springer. :D

Pistolet Makarova or BERSA Thunder 380.
Less to go wrong in a blowback....even less in a wheelgun.
:)

Getting a little dated now, but in a former life I trained and qualified people in my agency. Glock 17 and 19s were good in that department. SIG 220s likewise. A good 1911; and my Mk III BHP I trust.

Personally I have a very low tolerance for *any* weapons failure under any reasonable circumstances. As was pointed out, anything mechanical can fail; but some fail a *lot* more than others.

That may be why I carry a revolver and drive a Toyota. Six for sure and "Oh, what a feeling!"

The most dependable pistols I have owned:

Any K-frame Smith revolver

Belgian Browning Hi-Power

Springfield XD-40

Glock 17

Sorry, but my 1911s are not on that list, although I like them.

Some of my "Cheap" but reliable favorites :
Rock Island .45 full size ( No failures in over 2 years - since new)
Bulgarian Makarov No failures ever
Star BM 1970's ex-military No failures ever

I won't keep a pistol that does not work every time, and I certainly won't carry one.

My carry guns at tihi time are my RIA .45 and a S&W Model 19 revolver.

Mark :)

I have NEVER had a dependability problem with the following:

SW 5906
SW 39
Sig 226
Glock 17, 19, 21
FN Forty Nine
Beretta 92
Llama Max I ( not kidding  )

I think that what you will find is that most modern day auto pistols will be about as good as it gets. Keep them well lubed, clean, and change out the springs and any gun on your list should do you well.

HK
SIG
Beretta
Glock
Ruger

In that order, I don't yet do revo's so I exclude them from my list.

Only hundreds? Six or 8 boxes of ammo? That's just getting started.

Lots of guns with that kind of reliability.

Makarov. My brother's Springfield .45 has never hiccuped, to my knowledge. My Ruger P90 has gone probably 1500 rounds since the last bobble (excepting some of my reloads that it didn't like).

Well, every brand has it's fanboys. However, there are several that float to the top of the tank most often. Generally speaking, most any SIG, Glock, or HK is statistically destined to be a reliable and accurate gun.

There are of course others, and your mileage may vary.

Kahr K9

Browning HP

Arcus

All three have been perfect.

Bersa has been 100% except with Dynamit Nobel ammo.

Gotta throw my hat in for the SIG's
Have had my P229 .40S&W for 3 years and still no problems.
Not one.
I pull the trigger, it goes BANG every - single - time.

RTFM

My XD-40 and BHP 9mm's have been perfect. I don't shoot 10 billion rounds through them but I have shot enough through them to feel very confident that the next time I use them they will perform.

Use quality ammo and keep your guns cleaned and lubed and you've overcome most of the reason they fail by just doing that.

I own and have no problems with any of my Glocks, CZ's or Sigs. I have always heard that Ruger Autoloaders are very reliable. For some reason they are not as popular as the others. I have owned many different makarovs and they go boom everytime the trigger is pulled and a bullet is in the chamber. Some say the makarov is under powered but it does work well...I have never owned a Bersa but everyone that has seems to love them.
