O.K., as a CA resident (inmate) I'm interested in looking at alternatives. I'll confess that I love CA for a number of reasons.

I've thought about FL and MT, but I'm curious to know what people here think is one of the most beautiful, gun friendly, states/places there is.

Being from the CA coast, I would like to live somewhere where there is either a beach, a large thick forest with lakes and or rivers. I am not exactly bad weather tolerant that I know of, but maybe I could get used to snow and cold. I don't really hunt, but I would like to take up fishing. I'm a bit of a CA easy going smart ass so any place with too many serious humorless rednecks would not be a good place for me. No offense to the serious humorless rednecks among us, but I doubt you'd like it here anymore than I'd like it where you guys rule.

WOW! Picky enough for you? :D

Consider northeastern Pennsylvania: mountains, streams, lakes, gorgeous country...and it's an easy 2 hour car ride to NYC when you want a change.

How about Virginia?

Reasonably temperate climate, beaches, mountains (hills to you Rocky Mountain folks), lakes, rivers, and decent gun laws.

I think ScottE just doesn't want any more Californians. Colorado is the best place in this great nation. I moved here cause I hated California, except the area around Mammoth Lakes, which I'd move to if they separated from that state. If you are a gun-nut type person, Wyoming and Montana are your place. Some parts of Texas are good (they've got the 3rd Coast there y'all). I agree, Western Pennsylvania is under-rated. New Mexico is a charming place if you can tolerate Democrats. The Carolinas offer a hospitable people and warmer weather that you may be used to.

Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. But the lake beaches are fresh water, and there is no surf. Other then that fills the above. Though the record amount of snow they got this year might be a little bit of a winter shock.

Avoid Southern Idaho if you want forests.

I vote Alaska. It's actually quite temperate around Juneau (sp) and anchorage. It has spectacular scenery and fishing, is gun friendly, and, as a bonus, bears the size of small automobiles.

Maine is a place like that, if you move to a coastal area then you'll have easy access to beaches, there is thick forest everywhere, and mid-spring to mid-fall is beautiful, but full of tourists.

and I believe maine doesn't have any gun laws not already in place federally, or if we do, I'm not sure what they are. nothing too crazy though.

we scored a twelve with the brady bunch, and from the looks of kentucky's score, that's shameful! I want a score of zero!

man thats a tough one...one state is miserabley hot and humid in the summer, while another is bitterly cold in the winter.

if the car tax wasnt so high i'd submit Virginia as a good balance of climate and good/pro gun laws.

Southwestern Pennsylvania. Mountains, rivers, a wide variety of wildlife and the four seasons. Also, it only took me 5 minutes to get my carry permit.

+1 for Kentucky. We're on the verge of having a big, fat zero from the Bradys and we have lots of forest, lakes, and rivers. Our beaches may not have the whitest sand, but they have the best fishing. People are pretty easy-going, though I would stick to Lexington or Louisville if you prefer a metro area full of smart ass city folk.

Avoid Colorado, it sucks. I suggest TX or FL.

Scott is correct ... John Denver was a lying drug addict ... all those pretty photos you see are photoshop.

Maroon Belles is in reality only about 8 ft tall and across the road (behind the photographer) is a really big and smelly truck stop.

Plus we have roving gangs of Scientologists and real large insects (no, I'm not being redundant).

Stay away ... pitty us poor fools stuck here.

South Louisiana has plenty of woods, a bit of beaches and TONS of fishing... and we are pretty gun friendly here. The Morgan City area is very nice. The Houma/Thibodeaux area is nice...

Also, there is no such thing as a Humorless redneck... We are very fun and funny people. You just have to understand what we grew up around. You were raised on board wax, hair bleach and tanning beds...we were raised on Shrimp po-boys wrapped in wax paper, bleach white shrimp boots and oyster beds...and the only time surfing is cool is if you are doing it with a pair of flip flops on and a 60 lb bull red on the end of your line!

Here are some pics to counter the other beautiful pics in this thread!

Whatever anyone tells you, DO NOT MOVE TO OREGON. It is not pretty, the weather is horrible, we all hate guns and we shoot Californians here because they're a dime a dozen. I'm sure you're a fine citizen, but we don't need another "Southerner". We hate not paying a sales tax. We also wish we had to get out of our cars in the rain to pump our own gas, but those pesky gas station attendants won't let us.

OK, so I lied about it all except the part about Californians. They move here in droves. Us native Oregonians love watching the new "transplants" trying to drive in the torrential rain for the first time. You're always welcome to visit here, but don't stay too long.;)

So far.... OR looks good to me, since it's close to CA to visit the family...but again their gun laws are close to Northern Cal hippies that it may influence the political arena.

But I LOVE the OR coast and trees...lots and lots of trees. Good folks are there too.

I took a trip to AZ, but sorry, the heat sucks.

...BUT...it'll be hard to leave the bikinis, snow bunnies, Lakers, Dodgers, USC, UCLA, SCUBA diving, snow boarding, sunny afternoons, surfing, body surfing, Santa Monica, lobster/shrimp lunches, Hollyweird, movie, Disneyland, Universal Studios, Magic Mtn, Bakersfield, Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate bridge, Downtown, etc...

I'm staying.

Definitely not Florida. Full of yankees from ny.

Hurricanes, red tide, fat girls.

Montana is beautiful this time of year.

Alaska is cold, bitter cold. Ugly too. All those mountain vistas are a myth! Every single person is mean too. Yeah, mean. Fishing stinks as well. Ugly men and especially ugly women. Both have way too much hair on there body to keep warm! I include myself here.

You can't even justify getting a big bore revolver for bears. Brown bears are few and far between and they're super kind. Yeah, Alaska is bad. ;)
