Most gun friendly, beautiful state?

Marcus,

If you are looking for beaches, fishing, a paucity of rednecks, nice weather, and natural beauty, may I suggest Cuba. It is quite a bit like California. Same politics, same language, same civil liberties. It isn't real 'gun friendly', but you're probably used to that.

You would do well there.

Move to Georgia. That way you don't have to deal with all the yankees on vacation(Colorado, Texas, Utah, pretty much the midwest) and you won't die because of the 15 hour rides to hospitals when you get anything worse than a cut shaving (Wyoming, Idaho, Kansas) and you get good old Southern hospitality.

Yeah, you sound like too much of a wuss to hack it 'round here anyway. ;-)

Oh, we've got a sense of humor. We laugh at people from California. Ha ha. But really, everybody here is from somewhere else (like Mexico). People from California have the tattoo removed from the backs of their necks and no one can tell the difference. It is unbelievably hot here, though, and although we have a coastline, you've got bigger waves in your bathtub (except when there's a hurricane). And we don't have open carry yet.

North Carolina

Well over a thousand licensed gun dealers, as well as plenty of indoor and outdoor firing ranges, shooting clubs, hunt clubs etc.

One of the best concealed carry laws in the USA. Reciprocity agreements with at least 30 states allows for CC in well over half the country.

Mountains, Beaches, Lakes, Rivers, historic sites, the Blue Ridge Parkway etc.

The heat, humidity and hurricanes aren't nearly as bad as Florida. Winters are mild, except sometimes in the mountains.

NC has the best snow skiing and snowboarding in the South, except for West Virginia. Excellent hiking, whitewater rafting and kayaking.

NC has over two million acres of game lands open to public hunting. Bear, boar, deer, waterfowl, turkey, and various other birds and critters.

A fisherman's paradise, NC is the second most popular fishing destination in the country.

First, I'm amazed that no-one mentioned My Mother's home state of Iowa...oh yeah they don't use guns in Iowa, they just have Deer tags hanging on the pickups rear view mirror for road kill!

And while I usually spell California with a "K" as the Count said on page 1:
...BUT...it'll be hard to leave the bikinis, snow bunnies, Lakers, Dodgers, USC, UCLA, SCUBA diving, snow boarding, sunny afternoons, surfing, body surfing, Santa Monica, lobster/shrimp lunches, Hollyweird, movie, Disneyland, Universal Studios, Magic Mtn, Bakersfield, Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate bridge, Downtown, etc...

I'm staying.
+1 to that...don't know about Bakersfield though ;)...i'll replace that with Monterey.

With all the headaches I still get trigger time, so I cannot be too distraught.

What states are wonderful and what states suck is purely subjective....

I think Maine and NH are great.....but people who don't like winter should think twice.

Where ever you go, just don't bring with you all the expectations and attitudes that were behind the problems you're seeking to escape.

Typical example....

People from Mass. realize they can get twice the house for their money in southern Maine and NH.

So they move up and build their McMansions. With in a year, they're complaigning that the town library is inadequate, they don't like taking their own trash to the dump and the schools don't offer Oboe lessons.

After twenty years of this, taxes have doubled, the cost of a home has quadrupled, and the Oboe teachers and trash collectors are on strike for higher pay.

The solution of course....bring the Kennedy liberals up and quadruple the taxes, re-define life as you knew it and blast all the old timers and "traditioanlaists" as intolerant bigots worthy of deportation.

And people wonder why newcomers are viewed with suspician.

Geojap:
I seriously recommend staying in CA. I'm current;y in Texas...it's no comparison.
This is exactly what I was talking about above. Cali folks be hatin' while in reality your kindred statesmen are moving here in droves to find jobs and escape the economic turmoil that is California. With no disrespect and an honest question, why are you here and why don't you leave? You do live in Belton, which isn't exactly the Garden of Eden as far as Texas is concerned. Why in the world did you get stuck there if you are so Cali-minded? The military?
I souund more disparaging in my previous post than I meant to be. I didn't mean to "be hatin." Yes, I am military. I apologize if I was more critical than I meant to be, but certainly from an objective standpoint you can see much more ignorant CA-bashing than the other way around. When has anyone ever had anything negative to say about TX on a gun forum? Ironic that you may have gotten defensive when you felt just a smidge of heat. I apolgize, I didn't mean anything overtly offensive, unlike most CA-bashing. My main issue was "fighting the good fight" for a very, very good cause of that was historical CA.

I honestly do love Austin (I actually tell people I'm from Austin because even though Waco is closer...honestly...). While I find it a little pretentious, I do think it is pretty much the oasis of Texas. Oops, ther I go again...I honestly love TX as a whole. I just think It's a little full of itself. And FYI, there are still infinitely more refugees moving into CA (from TX, included) than the other way around. CA culture is the way it is because its character has been diluted unlike any other place on the planet. TX is only starting to get this. Las Vegas is certainly feeling this now too. But all of those bad steretypes of CA? Products of non-natives. Gays move to SF (not that theres anything wrong with that)...hippies, etc. Its self-perpetuating cycle. CA has been the rbight, shining beacon for all for more than a century, from the expanding West, through the dustbowl migration, to dotcom rush, etc, etc. Refugees from Michigan, TX, etc, head west for the "better life," often ending up in CA looking fro everything to be provided for them. Culturally, it has led to the increase of the need for CA govt to "provide" for its new immigrants in the form of, among countless other things, restrictive gun laws. Actual Califonia natives are a lot like what Austinites try to label themselves--liberal (read, by some: libertarian). Imagine all the growth you've had in the last 10 years, 30 years from now. That is what is CA. End of the day, all those things you hate about CA laws? It's coming from CA constituents who moved there from YOUR states. You're unloading them on us, in a sense.

Lived in AZ, WA, KY, OK, OH and TX. TX is by far my favorite among those. But CA still has it beat, and I honestly cant see anyone with my experience being honest by saying otherwise. THe HUGE caveat here is the obtrusive laws. That is a HUGE caveat, mind you. I will even throw in ridiculous home costs, overcrowding in some areas, etc. But, again, all of these things are artificial changes brought about by non-Calfornians...its all a paradox. CA is great (with huge, growing problems)...people want to move there because it's great...thus adding to its problems.

On this gun forum, TX, contrary to the steretype, is still not the perfect garden of eden for gun ownership. I'd reserve that for states like AZ... but to each their own. Peace, bud. Honestly, our forefathers in CA have that star on our Bear Flag for a reason--we took inspiration in our little revolution from the Texans' own. Just FYI.

Florida, you'll love it here. I live on the panhandle, tropical, very pro gun, and if you want thick lush forests, just go 20-30 minutes north of here and you'll feel like your in lower Alabama.

Don't come to Nevada. We are full of Commifornians. To cold in the winter and to darn hot in the summer. It is a dry, barren wasteland and you wouldn't be happy here. No beaches or green country to speak of. Besides the housing prices are way uot of reach. Best stay where you are at.

Tony:confused:

Nortern Florida, the Gunshine State, it meets all of your requirements. It is very friendly to guns and gun owners and is usually the trend setter on good gun legislation, for instance - the Castle Doctrine. All the Yankees go to South Fla, from I-4 down. I am in favor of cutting all the bridges on I-4, and let the rest of the state float away.

I like this tread for starters.. Got a couple laughs from you all. been 12yrs. since my last time visiting my Home state of Florida.;)

I really miss the mainland at times. Might just end up visiting at the most part. was in Nevada 2 1/2 yrs ago work related. and plan on visiting the motherland before I take a dirt nap:evil:

To all of you that live in class2/3, aow, DD states. I'm jealous:p

Thank you all for your input. If I offended anyone, and clearly I did I apologize. I've been to every state in the southern US from CA to FL. I've been to Utah many times, and a number of other states as well. I think my use of the phrase "humorless redneck" rubbed some folks the wrong way. Not my intention, but some of the replies have been fun to read just the same.

Parts of FL are very appealing and and NH looks very nice. Maybe I was a bit too hasty in my desire to avoid a harsh winter. I do like winter, just don't like being buried by it.

TX, you are safe. I've been to your lovely state many times and don't plan on returning. Once people in TX find out you are from CA they just seem to get pissed. I'll pass.

I was surprised to read all the CO people going off wanting to keep us out. I guess my former state mates have F'ed that deal up already.

I'm surprised that some here think I'd want to Californicate your state to make it more like home. WHY THE HELL would I do that? It's the political climate among other things that has me wanting to leave.

I can live without the plastic women of CA, I can live with out the hippy like liberal BS that goes on here, I can live without the high price of housing here. All I'd really miss are the beaches and the weather. Other than that, I'm not much different from most of you.

Growing up in Colorado we used to make fun of the Texans coming up and littering our ski slopes with slow-moving bodies trying to figure out how the "snow plow" maneuver works. They were polite and always good company to go shooting and drinking with though.

When I moved to Utah I understood why there was a political movement afoot to have Californcate its own country. One WITHOUT an immigration treaty. Of course most of the imported weenies are in Park City and the northern part of the Salt Lake Valley so one or two very small nuclear bombs should do the trick. (Of course I'm kidding.) For that matter once you get outside of the Wasatch Front Utah has some really nice areas as well. For whatever else their faults may be, the Mormon people are generally law-abiding, self-sustaining, and absolutely gun friendly.

Colorado really is a great place, but you've got to be in the right place. Don't go to Denver, Aurora, or especially Boulder. Scary, full of wackosa and even some leftists would look at Boulder and say "damn, you're screwed up, dude!" Colorado Springs is nice, although it is somewhat overrun with overly zealous fundamental "Christians." (I qualify that because in my time as an ordained minister I never studied any of Jesus' words that were as vitriolic as James Dobsen's are.) There are still a lot of nice areas in Colorado.

Alaska is truly the Last Frontier. There are some areas you can't go to if you're not native (unless you're a teacher) because they are strictly Tribal lands. Even so, the amount of land available here is INCREDIBLE! Anchorage actually has warmer winters than Chicago does, it's far northern latitude is attenuated because of the warmth of the Japanese current in the Gulf of Alaska. The small coastal towns along the panhandle from Juneau on down to Ketchikan have climates similar to Seattle. Wet, rainy, but very rarely below freezing. Hunting and fishing are as much a part of life as shopping is.

North Idaho!

Forget everything everyone else has posted and go to this link:

http://twinriverheights.com/

This is one of the most beautiful views in one of the most beautiful places on earth: North Idaho!

I'll admit this is somewhat self-serving - but I will sell you a 5-10 acre homesite with this view and boat access to the two rivers below (this is at the confluence of the Kootenai and Moyie Rivers). Power, water, phone just off a county-maintained road with hunting, fishing, and boating right outside the door. Snow in the Winter, sun in the Summer. What else could anyone want?

Florida is hot and humid about four months out of the year and really nice the other eight. Hurricanes are less of a problem in the north-central part of the state than they are in the south and on the coasts. There is a ton of fishing and a lot of parks for hiking and camping. The gun and self-defense laws are excellent. The taxes are low. The cost of living can be low, but it all depends on where you want to live. There are several large cities to choose from and lots of small cities and small towns as well. If you like horses, the Ocala area has more horse farms than Kentucky.

Colorado is very nice too. I nearly moved there. The weather is pretty moderate, but highly variable. Denver is a great town with lots of stuff to do, just make sure you don't live inside the city limits.

New Hampshire is another great option with everything from oceanside living to mountains and some really wonderful lakes. Its got one of the lowest tax burdens in the country and is one of the most libertarian states. I grew up there. Its a great place.

I'll have to post my vote for Kentucky. I drive through it enough to know that it is a beautiful state. The Bradys hate it, and the weather is good enough in the winter to not be intolerable like my home state. I've stayed in Kentucky enough to know the people are great and offer warm welcome almost everywhere, with the possible exception of the big cities, which I find to be only a bit more friendly than our own. I would love to call southeast Kentucky my home someday soon.

As a plug for my own state, you can move here if you want, as there should be plenty of room in the next few years. It's pretty gun friendly, and is probably more of a sportsman's paradise than any other state. Between the Great Lakes and the 20,000 or so inland lakes and tributaries, it is truly a boater's or fisherman's dream come true. Thousands of miles of snowmobile trails, ORV trails, beaches, and the Upper Peninsula presents what really amounts to God's country, if you want to get really away from it all. Of course, hunting is big here as well. 4 seasons where I live, though I must admit it can be hot and muggy in summer, along with cold and cloudy most of the winter. Snow can fall in feet in the Upper Peninsula and upper Lower, and it is not unheard of to find the roads between snowbanks of 15 feet or more. Not for the feint of heart, nor is it much for me as I get older. Spring can sometimes be non-existant, though fall can be truly spectacular, especially in the UP, in places like Cut River or Tahquamenon Falls. Certainly come for a vacation if you've never seen it.

I'll say it again because no one is showing my state the love it deserves!!!!!
OKLAHOMA! It has prairie, our version of mountains, the foothills of the Ozarks begin here. The far eastern and south eastern part of the state is not what people expect when talking about Oklahoma.

We have a butt load of pretty lakes. We even have sand dunes.

We also scored a 2 on the Brady list (because of no CCW on campus). If you like the arts Tulsa is a good place to be, and OKC is on the rise.

We might very well have our own NBA team soon (again). Oklahoma's gas prices are almost 20 cants below the national average. A million dollar house in LA is around 150k here. My mother in law's house would be 6million anywhere else.

Plus we have Tornado season. Storm chasing is fun. We also have some of the best barbeque in the nation.

The only thing I really dispise about our state is the Indian Casino's. Other than that I never want to leave and I spent much of my life in Texas (Dallas is only a few hours away from the OKC metro BTW)

Hooray for Oklahoma :)
