laws say vermont.. in practice, it probably varies by county and city

Nope, it doesn't vary at all. There are simply no gun laws on the books in Vermont.
Shall not be infringed means just that, shall not be infringed.

Mississippi has it pretty good at a 'D' rating. No waiting periods, no restrictions on weapons in vehicle (car is extention of home) and concealed carry permit with a little paper work. No open carry but I don't think I would anyway.

Not quite.

You CAN OC in MS, except for in cities which ban the practice.

But there *ARE* a lot of people from certain states we shall not mention here living in Vermont. Which makes what laws are or are not on the book a moot point. I have a hard time believing I could whip out my SKS and shoot down trees for New Years in rural Vermont without causing a major uprising.

Quote {Excluding the Portland Metro area,Oregon is pretty much wide open on all weapon types,even auto knives...}

Auto knife's are illegal in Oregon.

166.240 Carrying of concealed weapons. (1) Except as provided in subsection (2) of this section, any person who carries concealed upon the person any knife having a blade that projects or swings into position by force of a spring or by centrifugal force, any dirk, dagger, ice pick, slungshot, metal knuckles, or any similar instrument by the use of which injury could be inflicted upon the person or property of any other person, commits a Class B misdemeanor.

(2) Nothing in subsection (1) of this section applies to any peace officer as defined in ORS 133.005, whose duty it is to serve process or make arrests. Justice courts have concurrent jurisdiction to try any person charged with violating any of the provisions of subsection (1) of this section. [Amended by 1977 c.454 §1; 1985 c.543 §2; 1989 c.839 §21; 1999 c.1040 §15]

I'd also have to chime in on Vermont. No gun laws, they honor CCW permits from any state and yes, you can whip out your SKS and start mowing down trees on New Years Eve. There are common sense restrictions if I remember right. You have to be on private property or a large parcel of public property designated for shooting and I think there is a distance rule you have to follow to make sure your not shooting close to someone's house or a public road. Otherwise then that, your pretty much ready to go.

With a permit you can carry any firearm you want under your coat, the jury may disagree if you use it. You can't carry a switch blade, a throwing star period.

NFA registered sawed of shotguns are ok with a pistol grip, no shoulder stock allowed.

There is no restriction on any other weapon unless the feds restrict it.

There is a funding program for public ranges and quite a few private ones.

So which state is most gun friendly? Or do most states compare to one another in their friendliness?

How does the friendliness apply to:
Handguns, “assault rifles/weapons”, .50 BMG etc etc etc

most friendly gun state

mississippi does perment open carry you can walk to your hunting spot toting rifle shotgun pistol openly!

Man I have to say the great state of FL. CCW shall issue and no duty to retreat anywhere. The weather is a lot better than Alaska but here the hunting sucks.

i think n.h. is they are about to make it a felony if anybodly tries to conf guns as they did in n.o. after Katrina hit. and you can carry just about anywhere, from what i understand.

By far the "most gun friendly state" is Massachusetts...of course that was 200 years ago. :p I would say now it would be a toss up between Alaska or Vermont. If you like roughing it in the last frontier where the sun never sets and the polar bears roam...Alaska is your place; if you like wearing brekinstocks, going to Phish concerts, smoking/growing dope and eating alot of Ben & Jerry's ice cream than Vermont is your place. :neener:

Vermont, No question Check the ATF's book ofstate laws and ordinances. Now I hope Cosmoline isn't pissed at Me.......By the was Dean is a carpetbagger from N.Y. and a disgrace to all good Vermonters.........Essex

Actually, according to that list, we went from D- to F in 2003. Now, that's my idea of progress.

I remember doing exactly that in downtown Gulfport in the 70s. I'd be a little nervous trying it now, though. Oops, just noticed you said "hunting spot." I was thinking about taking my pump-action to the repair shop.
