I would like to hear about the most "loved/hated" guns out there, or the ones you own. These are the guns that are the most controversial, where a large segment of our hobby loves the gun and a large portion hates the gun (or tends to criticize it). If you own a gun which would cause you to fear the reaction of others, were you to brag about it in mixed company, it probably falls into this category. Well, you can brag about it here.

Please keep this civil and let's not get into putting anyone's gun choices down.

The number one controversial gun on my mind is those handguns made by Hi-point. I have tried to buy a couple, at various times, just to experience the famed reliability that so many speak of.

Controversial guns from my collection would probably include: Kel-tec PF-9, Glock, and Davis Industries derringer.

Glock here. See a lot of references of "drinking the kool-aid" and "fan-boy." I wouldn't say I did much of either. I got an amazing deal on it, almost five times cheaper than the MSRP an it's in LNIB condition, was just too good to pass up. Needed to retire my Astra for the time being anyway, because of it's magazine spring issue.

Remington 700...

I love mine and there are many fanatical supporters and then...

there are those who say the quality has gone down. :barf:

Who's right? I am of course... :D they're great rifles.

I never would have bought a Jennings J-22, EVER. ...But a friend of mine knew someone else who had one, and from what I was told this guy really shouldn't have a firearm at all... This guy is bad news that much I've seen first hand, but I've been told he even fired it in the air on a few occasions (not in the boonies, but pretty much within a major city). My friend convinced him to give it up, and he agreed, admitting that he's prone to make very bad decisions on a nightly basis :uhoh:

so me being a responsible gun owner and all, my friend decided to 'get rid of it' by giving it to me :D I hear mostly awful things about these guns, but I can honestly say I really enjoy using it, but purely for recreational purposes. With federal auto-match it cycles fine more often than not, but I've had more than one sketchy experience with it at the range. First one was once upon a time, I inserted the magazine, pulled the slide back and let it go forward on its own... only it slammed the rim of the loaded round and fired without my finger ever touching the trigger. Fortunately I was practicing safe gun-handling as usual, so the round actually hit my target, as it was already pointed down-range. Having experienced that, I am EXTRA careful with this little piece, and would never consider using it for anything other than target shooting. Also on more than one occasion I've had it 'runaway' on me, firing more than one round with just one pull of the trigger. Again, I take extra precautions above my already thorough safe gun-handling when I shoot with this thing. All that being said, I really do have fun shooting it, it's also the loudest .22lr I've ever heard anywhere, sounds almost like a .380 or 9mm, as the barrel is only about an inch long. This is definitely a 'hated' gun by many, and I don't love it as much as most of my other guns, but I do have a lot of fun with it. I would still never buy one of these, and especially would strongly recommend against anyone ever considering to use one for defense!

Another vote for the Jennings J-22. I've had mine for over twenty years, and had only one issue with it. That was when it field-stripped itself during an extended plinking session. However, I was using Stingers, which I later learned is not recommended.
I carry a Kel-Tec. Two, actually. Those are frequently bad-mouthed, or otherwise "controversial".
Many have issues with Taurus even existing. My first handgun, which I still own, is a Taurus (M66.) The ejector sleeve would sometimes work loose, locking up the cylinder, but it took several hundred, maybe even a thousand rounds to make it happen. No other issues with it.

Never owned a gun I hated. In fact I almost always regret selling them. I love reliability so Sig and Glock are my favorites. Of coarse as soon as I use the word reliability H&K comes to mind as well.

Loved/Hated firearms...

Any milsurp, any at all, which has been Bubba'd.

Even if well done.

HK VP-70. I think the trigger pull is what most people complain about the most. However it is super accurate, with a polymer frame and 18 round magazine. Not too bad for 1970.

Don't own one but my vote goes to Glock, for the love/hate feelings it generates. As some young guys feel that wheel guns are out of date and all but useless any of my S&W's should qualify.

My raven 25 is the best $40 ive ever spent never even had a jam with it one of my favorite sns guns

Besides the ones already mentioned:

Post-64 Winchester rifles.
Japanese Browning long guns
Late-manufacture Browning HPs
S&W .460 and .500 revolvers
S&W "Classics" revolvers
Colt Series 80 1911
Desert Eagle .50
SKS
WASR
And, I hesitate to add, M1 Garand

All of the above have some strong fans, with "purists" equally vocal on how "Hollywood" they are, or on how awful they are compared to the "real deal"--or to a real gun!

But, yeah, the prize goes to Glock.

Not mine, but I am looking for one. My fathers Mini-14 would lead most to believe tales of inaccuracy have been grossly exaggerated.

Glock
AR-15
AK-47
870/590
Sig Sauer
9mm
.40 S&W
.357 Magnum
.45 ACP

Seeing a pattern? People are passionate about anything.

I don't think it gets more controversial than HiPoint :).

Strangely enough I just posted about it in another thread, but it used to be that Savage (rifles) were kind of love/hate, but I haven't seen much hating on them in the last few years.

The only hate Savage gets (aside from personal things, such as looks) is usually pretty unfounded. Seriously, I haven't seen one credible remark about Savage being anything but good in recent years. All complaints have been reasonable personal things, and trolling.

worst for me hands down:

Smith & Wesson 9VE

after 40 rounds you couldn't pull the trigger until you stripped it down and put it back together. one of two guns I ever sold.
