Most popular .45 ACP hollow-point

For Bullseye Pistol, the most popular 45 jacketed hollow point is the 185 gr HP. I have observed the Army Marksmanship Unit and the All Guard shooters using factory. The last I was squadded next to an All Guard shooter, they had Zero Manufactured "185 gr JHP Match NC". That batch was made exclusively for the All Guard, and used a Zero JHP.

In my own 1911's, I can push a 185 gr bullet to 950 fps without being +P. Penetration and expansion with various 185 grain bullets are excellent.

I don't know about everyone else but most popular with me is 230 grain, gold dot or hst. My preference is the gold dot simply because I've shot a lot of them and I can predict reasonably well what they'll do, less experience with hst but I've seen them reviewed a lot. My least favorite is the golden saber, I've had unreliable expansion but some guys love them.

I don't think most popular is really so measurable? There are millions of dudes who like all kinds of stuff, from 230 flying ashtrays, to 185 hornady defense JHPs.

For 185 grain JHPs, the Zero 185 JHP's find there way into a lot of smaller company ammo, they are very good and accurate bullets, and very inexpensive. Same with RMR's when they have them. Montanna Gold bullets also has a very very nice 185 JHP. They are all basically unobtanium right now, lol........huge backorder.

230 grain JHPs, I'm partial to the Montanna gold.

As far as the best you can get for the most reasonable price right now, under curent inventory challenges? The only 185 or 230 JHPs I've been able to get in any numbers the past year were Hornady XTPs from Graf's. Not a bad bullet, but a bit pricier.

I buy .45 HP's for SD work, not necessarily accuracy or target... I like 230grn specifically, and the Speer Short Barrel Gold Dot is my favorite bullet. In lieu of the GDHP, I like the XTP, which has always been extraordinarily accurate in any weight/cartridge I load it in. I buy factory ammos for carry duty, but I buy component bullets for practice, and for the occasional dry spell when I can't get factory... like right now.

Sd I shoot the gold dot or xtp. Cheap jacketed target is when rmr gets the over runs of the nossler custom competition. Bulk target from the big box store is the hornaday hap wich is an xtp minus the hollowpoint.

HST is frequently available so that is what I buy for my 45.

I usually get cheaper HPs for my 38s and 9mm.

Older Hydra Shoks, Rangers, and Golden Sabres probably still hold up to the “modern bullets” scrutiny especially in 45.

I like the Sierra 185 grain "flying ashtrays" that I used to buy as "seconds" from the outlet behind the factory in Sedalia. The only things I've shot with them are a few woodchucks and raccoons but they were devastating. Full charge of Unique. Both out of a 5" 625 and a 5" 1911.

Buy bigger boxes. ;) hundred counts are for rookies and rifle bullets you have to mortgage the house for. :)
Those are the last of a couple of partial cases I bought when the Sandy Hook famine ended. They were on clearance racks and I emptied both. This was at a little pawn shop in Brookhaven we went into because my wife spotted a set of plates. The plates were overpriced but the reloading supplies were super cheap. Dumb luck. The guy was getting rid of all his reloading stuff and wasn’t going to buy more.

Hornady XTP is what is most commonly available around. Back when they still carried handgun ammo, we even had an area WalMart that carried XTP's

I haven't seen any of those in forever, I used to shoot them in my old SA 1911 occasionally.

When I first got my 4" Kimber, I bought 2 boxes of Speer Gold Dot 185grn +P's... for carry duty. 2 magazines worth of those at the indoor range and I boxed the rest up and banished them to the back of the ammo shelf... and eventually gave them away to an old Army buddy who likes that sort of torture. The fireball fairly filled the station I was in... quite unnerving.
