Most Popular 9mm?

I personally have seen more 92fs than anything and of course the M9 is a military arm so IMO that's the most popular. Every person I've gone shooting with all have a 92.

Did anyone else think that after reading the subject of this thread it would go exactly the way you thought it would go?

ha ha :D

Given your hypothetical scenario of a gun ban, and assuming possession is still legal, the guns mentioned in this thread would all be easy to find parts for.

The 40 just doesn't have enough magazine capacity for such a large heavy weapon, IMO. 92/96 suck as a concealed piece.

Ive heard that many times... You can get a factory 12rd magazine for the 96.

Why does'nt anyone say that about the 7/8rd mags for the 1911?

I've never heard of a 12 round 96 mag. Every one I have seen is 11 rounds. I have shoe box full right now.

If you were to search world wide the I believe there have been more P35 Hi-Powers in the hands of military and Police.

All this worldwide talk is beside the point, the OP asked about domestically purchased 9mms.

On that count the BHP and the CZ75 need not apply for most popular 9mm in the US.

Lots of BS on this thread.

The question was:

Does anyone happen to know (or maybe have links to data sources) on the most popular 9mm autos sold in the US. Whether it be military, police, private citizen use?

Civilians: Glock 19

Go to almost any gun shop in America and the answer will be the same, the Glock.

Now whether it is the G17 or G19, I don't know. But most dealers cannot keep Glocks on their shelves. I see lots of Beretta's just sitting around. Generally the ex-military buy them since they are familiar with their manual of arms.

LEO: G17 or Glock 19 but lots of officers carry G26 as BUG unless their agency has gone 40SW then it would be a G23/27 BUG.

Just ask your gun dealers.

The key with the Glocks is they make awesome SHTF guns with only 34 parts and easy to repair most problems yourself.

Love my other guns but I don't have any problems with my Glocks.

What BS exactly is present in this thread?

There are objectively more Berettas in the armed forces, this minute than all of the 9mm Glocks ever sold or exchanged or upgraded and issued to police forces in the US.

The 92FS doesn't sell like it used to, but neither does the G17 and 19.

In polymer, most cop shops have moved on to .40S&W.

My vote goes to Glocks, I have had a few 9mm and they all have been good shooters but the best that I have had is the Glocks.

I think the problem is that we have to say what we mean when we say most popular. Most popular among what group of people?

It may be true that there's many more of Gun X than Gun Y in existence, but what difference does that make to some people?

For private civilians in the US of A I'd say the Glock 19 or 17 is probably it.

It might be nitpicking, but the OP asked about domestic numbers from all sources, military and civilian.

There are plenty of anecdotes floating around in this thread, but the Beretta M9 has hard figures from the DOD. How many Glock cop weapons--IN 9MM--are possibly out there--RIGHT NOW?

In terms of totally civilian sales, I'd reckon that the Beretta 92 is at least on par with the G17/19 combo. Younger folks don't remember this so well, but the Beretta 92 has been for sale on these shores since 1975 and had three big booms of sales in the 1980s. First, the military adopted it in 1985. Second was the Lethal Weapon movies beginning in 1987. Then there was Die Hard in 1988.

In a world where there were fewer wundernines on the market and then the AWB hampering the sale of new full capacity 9mm pistols from 1994-2004, it would be foolish to underestimate just how many 92FS variants, including M9s have been purchased over the years.

They are found everywhere today in all year codes. I used to own five of them myself. I very much doubt those pistols have been melted down.

I can vouch for large sales of the Glock 19. Everytime I've went to purchase a Glock, the 19 is the one that is most scarce. When I went to buy my 19, the girl in front of me got the last one at that particular shop on that day. So I wound up have to drive for about 40 minutes to another shop to get one.

Guys guys, all you have to do is go to your local gun shop and inquire.

They actually sell many of these guns to civilians and cops.

Again, the Beretta is a nice weapon but 9/10 police agencies that are buying duty guns are buying Glocks.

Now, one of our biggest gun dealers says that the SA XDs are matching their Glock sales. so as to civilians, maybe the HS2000 now called the XD is selling better than the Glocks?

Just called one of Ask around - no special studies needed.

9/10 police agencies that are buying duty guns are buying Glocks.

And nine out of those ten Glock acquisitions, if not 95 out of every hundred, are no longer nine millimeter purchases, and thus off topic.

Currently they're probably selling more Glocks in .40 than Beretta 92s. However... historically, more Beretta 92s have been put in service than any Glock model. The Beretta 92 has had one hell of a legacy, they were the bread/butter 9mm for a good 20+yrs. The Glock might be popular, but its legacy is already fading. Everyone is making polymer pistols these days. XD sales have prob surpassed Glocks this last year.
