Most reliable suppressor/handgun combo?

If one is a suppressor newbie looking to get the best combo in terms of a pistol/suppressor combination what's the most reliable route to take typically? I'm guessing a Glock 21 or an H&K of some flavor may be top choices for this role but was wondering if there's any other guns that may be great picks and also what suppressors are best to ensure the best reliability. How quiet it is is a factor as well and from the little I've heard the .45 acp seems to be a top pick for that reason.
Thanks everyone.

The .45 ACP is generally considered very quiet because it's most standard projectile weight (230 gr) is subsonic. If you shoot any other subsonic pistol round suppressed you will be very happy with the noise factor as well when compared to a round that is going faster than the speed of sound.

Personally, I like suppressed Sigs the most, though the FNP-45 is a great suppressor host (especially with the Osprey).

hands down, FNP 45 tactical and osprey

taliv is a man with very good taste. I suppress my FNX with the Osprey. It's quiet and has good weight to it. Out of all of my host guns, the FN takes the cake.

p.s. to the OP, I'm psyched to see Diaz vs Silva at the end of January!

I can't speak authoritatively at this point as the suppressor is "in the works", it's a SilencerCo Octane 45, with a free Glock 21 threaded barrel thrown in and a $200 discount which pays for we-know-what, from Silencer Shop. I'm going with what my SOT dealer said which is the Octane 45 is the one he wants for himself. Time will tell.

Thanks for all the replies much appreciated!

Haha same here. I don't think I've ever been so pumped for a fight!

A 9mm can shooting subsonic 9mm will usually be quieter than the equivalent .45 can shooting subsonic .45. That said, it's a lot easier to find subsonic .45 ammo than it is to find subsonic 9mm, considering almost all .45 you buy is already subsonic, and most 9mm isn't.

But I have agree that the FNP/FNX .45 tactical with the Osprey .45 is a terrific combo in terms of sound, shootability, and looks.

Around here the two most common suppressed centerfire pistol combos are Glock 17/19 Pro + B&T Impuls suppressor and either Beretta 92F or Taurus PT92 + any lightweight suppressor. I have no extensive personal experience of the reliability of either, but these combos are very common and there seems to be very few complaints.

I have found the same to be true. OP: before you decide on caliber take a look at the dB ratings on the cans (preferably actual testing not manufacturer statements like "this can reduces noise by x dB" so you can make a better comparison between models). When doing this I went with 9mm instead of .45. A good 9mm can should put you in the mid to high 120dB range.

Reliability wise I've heard that Beretta 92s are good but I'm a big fan of Sigs so that's what I use as hosts. Light cans (that don't require boosters) should also be best for reliability, but most of these are micro cans which are hearing safe, but not really comfortable to use for log periods of time (and most require wipe replacement which can be tedious).

Another thing to consider is that using practically any suppressor is going to create back pressure which will make shooting the gun a much dirtier experience which will eventually impact reliability anyway.

My setup

I have the FNX 45 and use a Octane 45 on it, very nice. I also purchased a piston to use the Octane on my Sig 9mm, nice as well. and then purchased the adapter, not really a piston, and use it on a subsonic 300AAC, very versatile.

I have the Octane 45 as well. Versatility wise, it's hard to beat. I have used it on everything from a sub-gun in both .22 and 9mm, to my 300 whisper. You made a great choice for your first can bikemutt.

I'm looking for the best suppressor for a 458SOCOM. So I want a really efficient design that is affordable. Two different things perhaps. But the 45 ACP looks to be the best out of a pistol.

Jaki Sniper, 8". $200 or so. I got the Super Classic model for my R-25 last week and I'm impressed. According to independent magazine tests, Sniper is over 10dB (!!) more efficient than similarly sized A-Tech Carbon suppressors and it even beats much larger RCC and Stalon cans. I'm not sure about the availability in the US, though, but they're quite common in most european countries.

suppressing a pistol

I have a Cobra M2 awaiting approval at my local shop, and a threaded Glock 21 waiting for it. I saw a video on youtube of the same combination and it sounded pretty good, and was pretty darn quiet while wet.
