What is the most rounds you have fired in a session/day? What were the lessons learned.
MYSELF:
Took my new (three month old) 5+1 Mossberg 500 Persuader to the range last week Thursday to christen it. Wasn't sure when I would be back in that part of the state sooooo...... I fired one hundred and seventy five rounds in a 90 minute period. One hundred Federal Target 7 and 1/2 loads and the balance was a mix of 00 buckshot, #1 buckshot and rifled slugs (only five slugs as that was all I had).
What I learned:
1. Aim Low.
2. Hold the receiver and NOT the barrel when reloading.
3. Bring the shotgun up to your face and not vice versa.
4. Select an indoor range with adequate ventilation.:banghead:
5. Ear plugs under ears muffs are a good idea indoors and NOT overkill.(Glad I did this one before I started shooting)
6. Bring lots of targets.
7. Keep recoil pad on butt stock "in the pocket" at all times.
Had an assortment of ammo, Federal (bulk target loads), Winchester (00 'milspec' buckshot, #1 buckshot), Remington Express (00 buckshot, #1 buckshot, rifled slugs), B & P 'Big Game' Pallettoni (European size 11/0 [between 0 and 00 buckshot]). B & P patterned best for me, 2 fliers from 20 rounds fired at 50 feet, the maximum the range went to.
Mossberg 500 functioned flawlessly. No FTF no FTE. Did notice that the magazine was starting to come loose when I was cleaning it later the same night. Hand tightened the magazine, ran some snap caps through it, and it seemed good to go.
P.S. Also learned that the shotgun 'tattoo' (bruising) looks a lot cooler than it feels.
