What is the most rounds you have fired in a session/day? What were the lessons learned.

MYSELF:

Took my new (three month old) 5+1 Mossberg 500 Persuader to the range last week Thursday to christen it. Wasn't sure when I would be back in that part of the state sooooo...... I fired one hundred and seventy five rounds in a 90 minute period. One hundred Federal Target 7 and 1/2 loads and the balance was a mix of 00 buckshot, #1 buckshot and rifled slugs (only five slugs as that was all I had).

What I learned:
1. Aim Low.
2. Hold the receiver and NOT the barrel when reloading.
3. Bring the shotgun up to your face and not vice versa.
4. Select an indoor range with adequate ventilation.:banghead:
5. Ear plugs under ears muffs are a good idea indoors and NOT overkill.(Glad I did this one before I started shooting) :)
6. Bring lots of targets.
7. Keep recoil pad on butt stock "in the pocket" at all times.

Had an assortment of ammo, Federal (bulk target loads), Winchester (00 'milspec' buckshot, #1 buckshot), Remington Express (00 buckshot, #1 buckshot, rifled slugs), B & P 'Big Game' Pallettoni (European size 11/0 [between 0 and 00 buckshot]). B & P patterned best for me, 2 fliers from 20 rounds fired at 50 feet, the maximum the range went to.

Mossberg 500 functioned flawlessly. No FTF no FTE. Did notice that the magazine was starting to come loose when I was cleaning it later the same night. Hand tightened the magazine, ran some snap caps through it, and it seemed good to go.

P.S. Also learned that the shotgun 'tattoo' (bruising) looks a lot cooler than it feels.

300 rounds of #8's. We shot 3 rounds of sporting clays one day. I shot a tournament that morning and 2 more rounds that evening.

brought 1000rnds out once cousin and i went through about 350 each then decided that was one of the dumbest things we have done in a while, had a beautiful purple and yellow arm.

Skeet is 25 per round. I almost always shoot 4 rounds every time I go.

Trap is 25 rounds.

Sporting clays is 50-100 rounds depending on the course.

What's the most I've done in a day? I dunno. Guess 6 rounds of skeet, 2 rounds of trap and a sporting clay.

6*25 + 2*25 + 100 = 300

I think we went shooting 3x that week.

:) I really don't know how many rounds I have shot in a day. Quite a few I guess. It was in a dove field trying to hit those stupid birds. :cuss::cuss: Don

Most people don't have anything on the Olympic Trap/Skeet phenom Kim Rhode. In a typical day of practice she'll shoot 1000rds through her perazzi over/under a couple of times a week. I wish I had that much money to spend on ammo and clay targets. I usually go through 1200rds a month.

We had an Ironman competition at our local club in CA a few years ago...100 rounds sporting, 2 rounds 16 yard trap, 2 rounds 20 yards, and 2 rounds handicap trap (I think 25 yards), 4 rounds skeet, 2 skeet doubles...and I shot a round or two of skeet to warm up.

I was around 450 in a day....luckily I was shooting mostly 1 oz handloads and recoil on those isn't so bad.

Not gonna lie, I was a bit tender the next day. Combination of that many rounds and being out in the sun all day long just drained me.

Well I have access to my own thrower and plenty of fields to shoot over. 175 rounds is a slow day alone around here. :)

Walmart likes to throw 500 round or 1000 round cases of birdshot on sale around dove season here. I can run through a case or two of those easily in a day with the help of a couple of friends or family members. I'd love to get a better skeet thrower, as manually cocking mine gets tiresome (and can really whack your knee if you aren't paying attention).

If I'm shooting targets, it is usually just cardboard with a dot painted on it.

Dad let me fire my first shotgun at a very young age. It was a single shot 12 gauge with a steel butt pad. Ouch. It did teach me all about how best to hold the shotgun. Poor technique with that thing was (and still is) a very punishing mistake.

770, I was trying to get break-in and load selection done in one day outdoors and use up most of my ammo before a move. My shoulder was actually doing OK until the last few box of ammo which I'd saved for last, magnum buckshot, which hurt more than all the previous rounds.

Boy This thread has brought back some memories. While in collage I shot on the Trap and Skeet team, we would go thru them 1 1/8 oz loads. I could not give you a hard number for most in a day, but am sure it is well over 1000.

In 1994 in Argentina I shot 2 flats of 12ga one day (500 shells) and switched to a 20 gauge the next 3 days with almost 900 rounds one day ! I can't afford that kind of trip any more! The shells were about $1.50 a box as I remember, the airfare being the BIG expense.

I reckon about 300 on sporting and skeet. I couldnt see the point of 300 rounds at a "range" though, shooting at stationary targets.

Mind you, each to thier own :)

500 shooting sporting and 5-stand, including shootoffs.

One friend went to Argentina and went through 10,000 shells in three days - that's my next goal

She has quite a regimen - she shoots 25 straight at every station - if she drops one, she starts over on that station until she runs it. - she does it almost every day - and she had to switch from trap to skeet since the Olympics dropped trap - quite the athlete. I wish I had her dedication and focus

I did 700 once trying to get in enough registered birds before the Grand...if I hadn't been shooting my reduced 7/8 ounce loads I never would have made it. As it was my score towards the end were nothing to brag about. This was spread out over almost 18 hours.

about 12,000 rounds of 7.62 is probably my biggest day.

I have probably a dozen days shooting around 6k rounds on handguns.

Shot enough that I burned my hand on the barrel.

It was a case of federal dove loads. 200 rounds, + a partial MTM box of shells.

Just target shooting clay pigeons with my brother.

6000 round in one day with a handgun? That would be 12.5 round per minute non-stop for 8 hours straight. That is a lot of shooting.

I'm curious how you do 6k handgun in a day....not saying you're fibbing, just curious is all.

20,000? Maybe a little less than that? It was a spendex. I used a SAW mostly. Both barrels were stripped at the end of the weekend (because this went on for three or so days) but they had a lot of wear already. I was sick of shooting, just wanted to go home. Everyone got new SAWs after that, and we got more ammo for the next year, so I guess it all worked out. Many M4's went over round count though. I know this comes to about 30rds. per minute for 12 hours straight, but we shot all day and all night will few breaks and little rest. I did it with an M4 myself the next year.

I saw some guys just load mags, pull the trigger 10 or 12 times on burst, and then reload. Not even aiming. They wanted to go home too.

They had a magazine loading detail, they couldn't keep up. You'd fire seven mags, go back and trade the empties for fulls. If they didn't use stripper clips to load that morning, they did by lunch. When we ran out of belts, the SAWs got mags too. Boxes of mags. That slowed me down some, but not by much (mostly clearing jams).

The entire range was COVERED in brass. We picked it up seated, you could fill an ammo can without moving. Still took half a day. Not sure how many hundreds of thousands of rounds we blew through, millions I'm sure. Took a few FMTV's to haul away the brass.

Most shotshells is probably under 1000. More like 500+. Mostly birdshot of course, I don't think I could shoot that many slugs or buck.

Handgun I've done a few thousand. 9mm, Beretta. Not an army one though.

I like aimed rifle fire personally, I can make 100-200 rounds last all day and have a great time.

Not sure about him, but we did turn and shoot drills, action shooting, run and shoot, etc. All close range. Had a mag loading detail.

When I did a few thousand in that Beretta, it was all multiple target scenarios, all rapid fire and fast mag changes. Had a buddy help with the mags. I also have a million (well, not a million, but a lot) mags per weapon, so it makes it easier to do.

Shooting them isn't the problem. Loading the mags is the problem. You thumb is SHOT by the end of the day, especially with pistols --no stripper clips there!

10 hour days, three people shooting and loading (1 shooter, 2 loaders, rotating) 200 magazines, 6 guns.

shoot about 150 rounds, change guns. when all six guns are shot, load magazines until guns are back under 130F.

Go home, pop blisters, ice wrists, rinse and repeat.

I'm working on some process changes, and range equipment to speed things up for the next time.

Most recent pistol shoot, we shot about 60k rounds in 6 days.

I have a neat job, sometimes.

Out of a shotgun – the most is a measly 150 rounds at the trap range.

I’m usually happiest when I can shoot the least amount of shells: spend a 3 day weekend, shoot 9 shells and get 9 roosters.
