Many keep several hundred even several thousands of rounds on hand for their rifles and handguns, but do you keep a small stockpile of buckshot and slugs on hand? And if so, how many of what kind? I personally keep a small stash of Rio 00 buckshot and Winchester el cheapo slugs on hand 'just in case'. I keep about 500 buck and 200 slugs in the closet. Been trying to get a few hundred rounds of Remington's Express 12 pellet 0 buck load as it patterns best in my shotty. What do you keep on hand?

When I find the Winchester 1 Oz max slugs in 15 packs on sale I stock up. (I think I have 60 rounds) They shoot really well in my 870. Few people use them for hunting here and sometimes Wally World sells them cheap.

I usually have a case of dove loads and 50 rounds of buck and a variety of pheasant loads.

I cast round ball for my capnball revolvers and my Thompson so I simply use those. I have .50, .440, .445 and .36. I just load up what hulls I need.

I probably have about 1K rounds of buck and 250 rounds of slug ammo on hand at any given point in time.

I just inventoried and I have more buck and slugs than I thought, still I don't stockpile it like the ammo I shoot in competition.

What rbernie said, and I keep around 1000-2000 rounds of birdshot since most tactical/defensive shotgun training classes use birdshot to teach and reinforce techniques due to the lower cost and lower recoil of birdshot rounds.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

I only have around 200 rounds in total... 100 of them are birdshot and the other 100 are buck and slugs. I don't stockpile, I just have what I need and if for some reason I need more I just go buy it.

Honestly, though, I think that if ammo prices were like yours I would have much more ammo and shoot much more.

I recently supplemented what I already had in stock with another case of 00. At the price, it didn't make sense not to.

Combined (60) total comprised mix of 00-buck, 1-buck, sabot slugs and rifled slugs. Basically a life time supply under the prevailing normal circumstances.

Just did. I had about 100 rounds of OO buck added 175 rounds of Fed regular old OO, 100 Fed LE flight control OO and. 100 Fiocchi slugs. In the last few months I've added a fake M12 trench gun and a quasi Ithaca Deerslayer. Making 4 short barrel 12s to feed.

I guess I may have 25 rounds of buck. Not something I stockpile or shoot on any regular basis.

I have about 300 rounds of 00 buck, a few different flavors such as Hornady tactical 8 pellet high velocity 00 buck, but mostly standard Remington 2 3/4" 00 buck express rounds. I got a good deal on a 250 round case about a year ago and snatched it, otherwish I probably wouldn't have so much.

I need to get me a Mossberg M590A1 shotgun to shoot some of it! I currently have an old Winchester model 12 riot gun w/ a 20" barrel, and while it's a blast to shoot (pun intended) I feel bad about running it through the ringer like I like to do with my fighting shotguns.

Yes I do!

I just checked.

I've got 5 buck shells I've had since 1970 when I brought them home from the Army.
And 2 old slugs that the lead is turning white on the ends.

And thats 6 more then I will ever concevibly need, for anything.

I don't have much use for 00 Buckshot although I did buy a ammo can of Federal 00 (75 rounds I think) a year ago.

For me personally #6 high power Upland Bird and Duck loads are more useful. They will do a number both on a attacker and on birds when in the field.

p.s. Note to self. Buy case of #6's this Fall.

I've got maybe 40 or so rounds of 00 buck, maybe 25 slugs, a couple boxes of #6 steel and a hundred or so mixed #8 and #7.5 shot, with a hand full of #2 and #4 buck.

I'm holding off on buying ammo until after I move and get everything settled in my new place.

I keep my HD shotgun stoked with 00 buck and every shotgun class I've ever taken requires at least some 00 and slugs, even though most of the shooting is birdshot.

So, I've got a few hundred rounds of buck and probably 60 or 70 rounds of the cheap Winchester Super X rifled slugs that my deer gun just eats up. I always stock up on slugs right after deer season here when stores discount them to free up shelf space between deer seasons.

I dont shoot much slugs and buckshots due to cost. I only have a few less than a 100 shells for self defense . Occasionally i shoot some just for kicks.

Yep, I keep about 100 rounds of custom 00 and #4 kicking about.

Just shot through the last of slugs, but I have new slug moulds, and its casting season.....

I'm gonna get this slug and buck thing to work right this year. WAA12r wads are here, but I'd rather not use them if I didn't have to.

I think I have just the five rounds in my bedroom shotgun. They are probably 20 years old and I might replace them in 5-10 years.

If I ever use them up in self defense I doubt I will be reloading the shotgun. I will be grabbing a handgun, or already be dead.

Not really. Not high on my list of needs. I had a friend who stockpiled prior to the Y2K scare. After the world didn't end as predicted he gave me about 200 rounds. I think I've fired 5 rounds since then. I've used enough in the past to know there are better options.
