Hi everyone this is my first post here, been enjoying the gun talk and the great pics of them !
I plan on purchasing a Ruger .22 cal New Model single six this week (6 1/2 in barrel) I had this model back in the early 80's I took it to a gunsmith to get it tapped and mounted with a scope I gave him.
When I went to pick it up I was devastated to see that he had mounted the scope on the barrel in such a way that the scope stuck out beyond the end of the barrel,it looked ridiculous. The gun was never the same to me although it did shoot pretty well.
Is this the common way to mount a scope on this gun ? Personally I've never seen a scope mounted on a handgun this way although I must say I haven't been around the world of handguns that much.

If anyone out there has pics of their Model single six mounted with a scope I would appreciate you posting it here and/or the mount that would be needed and the best scope for this gun, thanks for your time ! Bill

Hi again everyone,I hope I didn't ask a stupid question lol Can a scope be easily mounted on a Ruger New Model Single Six revolver ? It should be mounted above the cylinder on the frame ? When I had that pistol scope mounted on this model of gun back in the early 80's I believe the gunsmith said that he couldn't mount the scope on that portion of the frame (about cylinder) any help at all would be appreciated,Bill

hey Billy, and welcome. you will love the single six. i'm going to buy my first in about a week and cant wait (first handgun:D). this obviously means i dont have one. but i do have pics of it to show you it can be done.

here's a link to a manufacturer, i dont know anything about the quality though. it is the same brand pictured, it would seem.

Hi Sean, thanks a lot ! you've answered all my questions ! Looks like it takes low rings also. Hope you get lots of fun out of yours. Seems like a usual time of year we are buying 22s with deer season starting and getting cold outside but what the heck :) Maybe it's warmer where you are !
I 'm not planning on putting a scope on it right away but probably not too far down the road, how about yourself ?

thanks again for all your help !

note about Weigand mount

the weigand no drill/ no tap scope mount is a very good product, i had one once. i had to send mine back because of a problem, not with the mount but with my Single Six.

the two "ears" on either side of the rear sight ramps were not machined properly and ramped up from rear to front of the tow site gaurds. if your gun is like this you couod take it to a good gunsmith and have them machine the tops of the sight ramps to runn parralel to the bore.. when i mounted mine the front of the scope pointed upwards into the air

if your ruger is great and the sight ramps run parallel with the bore you will be fine...
