Couple ???'s for putting a scope on my Mod 70 7mm stw-
Is it the general thought that burris signature rings and mounts are the best way to go??
When would you use a one piece mount of the weaver style??
Is there a better scope than the Burris 3-12x44 for the money??

Personally I prefer Leupold rings and bases. They offer a large variety of mounting options and different ring heights. I like the QR/Quick Release simply because of the flexibility it provides me. Theoretically you can have an array of scopes with the QR rings sighted in on the same gun with one QR base and exchange them without having to re-zero your scope. I have not done that yet myself but I do find them handy for removing the scope from the rifle and returning the scope back with no sighting in needed.

I have one rifle this way and all of the rest have standard Leupold rings and bases.

I like the Leupold, too. After that, maybe the Burris or Redfield. Weaver would be down the line for a hard kicking cartridge like the 7mm STW.

For the scope itself, either the new Burris or Leupold VX III. Both high quality and both should serve you well.

I've got several Leupold's and no Burris, but that's only because I haven't purchased a new scope in several years.

Going to have to rectify that in the next few months as I put "Scout" type scopes on some Swiss and Mosin cast boolit launchers. :D
