Zen21Tao, ahh...the difficulties of not having vocal inflection when typing - it was meant as a sarcastic response - just pokin fun back at ya. I'll try to improve my use of the smilies. BTW, how is the reliability of the AMT? Also, how does a college student afford a 500 S&W? You're a lucky man good sir.

In that case I apologize for my reaction to your post and the sarcasim I took with my reply and have deleted it.

As for my AMT it makes for a rather heavy pocket pistol but I like having the 5+1 rounds of .45ACP in pocket. It comes in handy when, for what ever reason, I am unable to carry one of my normal IWB guns (a Sig P239 .40S&W or a Glock 29 10mm). I have put a few hundred rounds through it without a single hiccup. The worst features of the AMT are that all it has for sights is a grove down the center of the slide top and it has massive recoil. If you can withstand the recoil, weight and lack of adaquate sights its not a bad little gun for up close defense.

As for being a college student that can afford a S&W 500 I am an older student that served in the Army and worked a few years prior to college. I just graduated with my undergrad degrees and have been accepted into graduate school. Between grant/scholarship money, Army money, personal savings, investments and student loans I have been able to get a few nice toys.

Very cool info Zen, sorry if my previous sarcasm came off in a bad tone. I may be in your situation here in a couple years. I've got just under 11 months left with the (ch)Air Force, then onto gunsmithing school, and hopefully another try at the traditional university after that. The AMT sounds pretty interesting - I thought the Kel-Tec P-11 I had was fun to shoot. Maybe I'm crazy but I think recoil is fun... as long as not a 45-70 derringer like a former co-worker had. He offered to let me shoot it, but that was one mouse gun I passed on.

Maybe I'm crazy but I think recoil is fun...

I also like recoil, hense my 4" 500, but the problem with the recoil of the AMT is more that it effects performance. The pistol grip ends at the bottom of my third finger. The recoil both pushes back and snaps the muzzle upward. With the shortness of the pistol grip and the AMTs type of recoil the guns torque makes is slower to recover and realign for aiming the next shot. This recoil and recovery isn't much a problem if you need to fire off a few quick rounds where aiming isn't much of an issue. While its hardly a nail driver it is capable of keeping all its rounds on paper at 25 ft. Also, the trigger pull is extremely heavy (I would imagine around 18-20 lb) perhaps even heavier than my S&W 500.

And, good luck with your schooling after you finish with the Airforce.

Since you all know what a P3AT looks like, here's the holster for mine. I modified an Uncle Mike's to hold an extra mag. This usually stays in my coat breast pocket with the bottom held down by a safety pin so it doesn't turn or come out when drawn, but it also comes out to ride in my pocket occasionally during warmer weather. You may also notice that I slimmed down the bersa mag extension by some judicious sanding.

Mousers

I certainly enjoyed seeing the comments and photos on this thread. I guess I'm as wacky as the next guy about little guns with big feet. I have carried an AMT .45DAO for a couple of years because I like the bounce for the ounce of the ACP rounds. While having it tuned recently I spotted a neat little MK-9 Kahr. I still like the trigger on the AMT best of all, but the Kahr is close. Both are a little heavy, but I'm a tall fat kid and the AMT nestles right into a Bob Mika pocket holster while I like my Uncle Mike's for my Kahr. Heavy is kinda nice in some places...Several years back I bought a S&W Centennial Titanium/Scandium hand hurter, and put some nice Ajax white pearlite grips on it. I used a light bullet weight to get used to it. The first round I fired shattered the pearlite grips and cut the howdy do out of my hand. I like heavy now.

I overlooked remarking on another feature in my Kahr v. AMT Backup post yesterday. I bought a nice looking set of wooden grips for the Kahr. I doubt it'll get to wear them while in my pocket, but they'll be there if I want them. And I noticed a nice feature about the Kahr. 1911 grip screws fit the MK-9, (and I presume all Kahrs?). I lost a grip screw for the AMT and it took a long time and big headaches to get a correctly sized screw.

I too have lost a grip screw in my AMT Backup. Do you remember the correct size so that I can replace it? Would my local hardware store have it or will I have to special order it?

That is to wierd. I two have lost a grip screw. I actually installed one of those rubber grips over it. Works like a charm. You can also notch a regular 1911 magazine for the European mag release that way you can carry a larger capacity backup mag, or if you carry a 1911 then you have a spare mag that will work in either gun. Buddy is working on a better mag release.

I don't have a mouse gun yet, but could anyone here post a side by side comparison of a 25, 32, and 380 round? I am just not familar with these calibers.....

Here is a page from a Popular Handgun Cartridge Comparison (pdf) file I did.

Thanks, that is a perfect diagram. Much appreicated!

I don't have a true mouse gun, but I guess this is the smallest and lightest carry gun I have. A Total Titanium 38 snubbie.

P95Carry,

That is one page of a five page PDF file that I did on Popular Handgun Ammo.
It has that page along with another page showing Revolver and Semi cartridge casings and two pages of average ballistic information.

I could e-mail you the pdf file or I could save each page as a higher res jpg -- your choice (or both). Just let me know how to get them to you and what you'd like. You can PM me here if you wish.

Bob - thx for getting back. I think you may still have my email from when we chatted before - if not tho will PM that.

The pdf would be great but if the pic in question exists as higher res then a low compression JPG of that too would be excellent.

PM incoming - .................

Indeed yes, the NAA Mini trigger is rather like some of the real early guns - just a small slightly protruding lever.

Being SA only the apparent exposed nature of that is not a problem and is only functional when gun is cocked. Poundage is quite strong too so hard to touch it off casually.
