the primary ammo ( 5.56 and .223 ) for civilian sale? Personally, I`ll be surprised if the government doesn`t at least try for one or both. I`m beginning to think Uvalde may well have been a tipping point.
State or Federal? In some states a ban might pass. However, if you saw this - you need to post where and details. Otherwise it is just sky is falling. No chance of a Federal ban in the current Congress. Same with banning ammo.
I personally don`t recall the details of what constituted the definition of an " assault weapon " for the `94 ban. Perhaps someone with a better memory can comment on that. It wouldn`t surprise me if whatever might be proposed would be based on that (?).I believe there is far too much ignorance in the political class to pass an enforceable "Assault Weapon" ban. As they say, the devil is in the details, do they go the Diane Feinstein route and ban the "looks like a car jack"? Or the one they seem to always stumble over concerning automatic or semi-automatic? Any cosmetic description fails as my SKS, M1 carbine, M1 Garand, or Mini 14 is just as much an "assault weapon" as an AR or AK. The killer in Uvalde may as well of had a single shot .22 and been just as lethal given the amount of time he was allowed inside the building.
