?moving from kansas to missouri with a rifle?

I wouldn't foresee it being a problem as just a couple months ago I bought and AR in KS from Cabela's and drove it home. If its your rifle and you have it packed away I do not see any law that you would be breaking. Granted there are others with more legal knowledge that know better than I.
I used to move with firearms all the time while in the Army, no big deal. Only thing you have to watch for is state/local laws. I couldn't take certain rifles with me when I was stationed in California. Missouri doesn't have any laws against AR rifles. As long as you legally purchased it, you can move with it to Missouri.

You don't need to do a thing. I would get a new drivers license though.

As long as the state you are moving to does not have special gun restrictions, then you can pack up the rifle and move it and not tell anyone. I would recommend getting a CHL in your new state of residence, but that has nothing to do with moving your rifle...

I moved from Texas to Missouri with an AR-10 and Mini-14 and all I did was change the address on my Tx CHL, and buy some more guns. Missouri dropped firearm ownership licenses several years back and the only magazine capacity limits are for when you are hunting. Open carry is legal per state law but individual cities may regulate or outlaw it so you have to be careful about that. You can apply for a CHL after 6 months residency

The permit was for handguns only, they dropped it about ten years ago. The only place you have to be concerned about is St. Louis, and there you are still legal.

This was a permit to ACQUIRE a handgun, not a license to own one. It was obtain from a resident's local sheriff. Those moving to our state would not, of course, have any reason to obtain this permit. Once the permit was used to buy a handgun, it was sent by the dealer to your local sheriff's office. The owner of the new gun generally did retain a copy of this permit. In thirty years of buying/trading handguns in Missouri, I only had one dealer give me a copy of the permit for my records.
Anyway, this system is long gone. Missouri is a gun friendly state.

I am sorry, I thought it was a given that it was a purchase permit and not a license. Never the less it was a form of registration.

Missouri is now friendly to gun owners but that wasn't always the situation. In the fifties/sixties Springfield had a sheriff who refused to issue permits to buy a handgun to anyone not in law enforcement. He didn't think citizens, especially women, should have them.
Fortunately, after many years in office he was voted out by gun club members and other folks tired of his dictatorial policies. Second amendment rights in Greene county have only gotten better ever since. My, how times have changed. Almost makes me want to move back - except I can't take ice storms, snow or freezing weather.

Municipalities in MO may only enact two firearm related ordinances:
1. Banning the open carry of concealable firearms, except on your own private property.
2. Banning the discharge of firearms within city limits as part of a noise ordinance. Cities may offer permits for exceptions to this law for firing ranges, training centers, etc.
All other laws are retained on the state level.

I can't wait to move back to MO after spending almost 4 years here in hawaii...god I hate this place.

Your completely fine as others have stated. Enjoy. Just don't expect too much from the sports teams if your closer to KCMO than eastern portions of MO.
Not sure what those other MO teams are doing but the Royals and Chiefs are desperately trying to out lose the Chicago Cubs...

Unfortunately I might find myself on the other side of the state line for a job. Darn Johnson County, spent so much time complaining about them and I may have to join them. :/
I believe KS is quite gun friendly as well so that is an upside.

Besides paint everything beige and to have tons of $.
They are mixed gun friendly in that county. Be white, middle class and keep it to yourself and your good to go as far as Ive seen.
Some good gun stores and indoor ranges if your ever in Johnson County.
The bullet hole and a newish range, centerfire something, ive been to. Seemed pretty decent.

Thanks again everyone...its funny how ks mo people get into it in every topic...im unbiased between the two originally being from ca(sure like having my firearm freedom back though)...but working for the city requires me to live in kcmo...thanks again (no chiefs for me 49ers!!!) Im sure that will stir the pot haha
