Night take some advice from a guy whose been there.

Congrats.
and the now the advice. DO NOT get distracted from school. I know its tough to work full time and go to school. Always take classes even if its just one class and semster. If you skip a semster its darned hard to get back into the swing of things.

Oh and when(and it will happen)the do I buy a new gun or pay for classes conundrum comes up. Pay for the classes.

Learn from my mistakes.:)

Skunk, would you please have Runt send some of them my way? ;)

As for moving to Tennessee, welcome to one of the two most best states in the country, having beat out Alaska by virtue of the somewhat nicer climate and reduced risk of bear consumption.

Congratulations on moving southward even if you're getting held up in TN. I have family in MI and on my few visits up that way all I could think about was how much it made me appreciate the south in general and Alabama in particular. Few things to remember.......

-Please for the love of everything sacred in football don't turn into a UT fan.....Rocky Top? ugghhh......LOL. Sorry AlaDan but the only two words he needs to know are ROLL TIDE!

-Anytime you feel like wandering to the Heart of Dixie, you're welcome....you may just get a little more comfortable. Alabama and Tennessee have reciprocity BTW.

-It's coke.....not pop or soda.

-Sweet tea is SWEET tea down here.

-The women are sweeter than the tea.

W

Actually, all tea is sweet down here. Now, there's this brown water crap they want to call tea and they say to put in chemical sweeteners to simulate tea but you shouldn't fall for that.

So Skunky, when are YOU coming down to TN? Come on, I need to get my...um...posse...together. My veritable crew, if you will.

I'm tired of this crap where all of my friends live all over. I went from having almost everybody in MI to having my best friends live in distant lower MI, TN, ME, CA, and UT. Tiresome having to drive ten hours to see a movie with a friend!

Glad to see you moving on.

I'm in Michigan and retired few years ago and The wife and I are moving to Knoxville area in about 3 years. It is a very nice area. One of the nicest Gun stores and ranges is

COAL CREEK ARMORY, INC
10737 Dutchtown Road
Knoxville, Tennessee
865-966-4545

Just off Kingston Pike south of Knoxville.
We visit area about 3 to 4 times a year Love to go shooting with you when we come down. email me when you get setteled.

Gordon

And yes, they do tend to call you a yankee " Which I hate" and think nothing of it. I just tell them Yanks are from the original 13 colonies and not the Midwest. ;)

I probably won't be there for more than four years. I don't like being in one place too long.

You get hooked up with one of then ole gals down there and you'll never leave Tennessee.

I'm coming home in one more year and never leaving again. Jonesboro/Johnson City area. East of Knoxville, in the mountains.

Congratulations on moving to God's own country.

Like being called a "yankee", for instance.

Shucks, you'd be hard pressed to find a Southerner who would call you a yankee to yer face. We got more manners n'at. We wait 'till yer out'a earshot. ;) Stay a little while and if we like ya, we'll 'dopt ya and fergit ya come from anywhere but the South. Subject to good behavior, a'course.

Sorry AlaDan but the only two words he needs to know are ROLL TIDE!

Poor old 'Bama fans. Like maggots, been livin' off a dead Bear for years. :neener:

CCW's an such

NC,

The process is fairly simple. 1. Go to DMV, Pick up/Fill out the form( its like a page and a half) 2. You and I go see my buddies at the Sherriffs office and get some free prints done. 3.We get you proof of a basic gun safety course (TWRA has a free course I beleive, if not I have a friend whom is a instructor that is State Cert) 4. We take all that stuff, back to DMV along with the $115.00 fee and turn it in. 5. Wait for Permit to arrive in the mail.

You must be 21 to apply for a Concealed firearms permit.

To obtain a handgun carry permit in Tennessee, you must first complete a handgun safety course offered by a handgun safety school that is certified by the Department of Safety.
You should then obtain a handgun carry permit application from any driver license station. Although the application is available at all stations and all stations now process the applications.
Once you complete the application, return it to any of the driver's license stations.
Bring with you the original copy of your safety course completion certificate.
$115 for the permit fee. This fee must be paid in cash or with a certified check.
If there are no problems with the application and you meet all eligibility requirements, you should receive your permit within 90 days of the date you submit your application.
The following items can be obtained at Tennessee DPS http://www.state.tn.us/safety/handgunmain.htm.

Precisely. You don't get called a yankee until you prove you deserve to be called a yankee. ;)

Coal Creek Armory

Got the T-Shirt. Liked that place quite a bit. Their MP5 was a jammomatic though.

The photo: Basically, it's the result of 100+ rounds of .308, plus some 12 gauge and some .45.

Tree didn't go down without a fight, though. Nearly landed on me (missed me by a foot, my back was turned). Tried to take it's killer with it. Gotta respect that!

Feanaro.......hahahahahah.....wait a minute.....that's gettin a little personal don't ya think? I'd rather Hula with Shula than tattle with Phil any day....lol.

Oh really? :scrutiny:

Not if you spent 15 years working for Pepsi in Tennessee. You'll break the habit of calling it Coke ("The 'C' Word") very quickly. It's soda. :neener:

Well, it's Coke to most everyone I know. Servers seem very practiced in their "is Pepsi all right?" lines. Guess they have to say that a lot. ;)

Probably. They get to say "Is Coke all right?" to me. I don't work for Pepsi anymore but it's pretty well ingrained now to say "Pepsi." Hey, when they write your paychecks ...

Anyway - Tennessee is a great place to live. Mostly. I still think we should solve all our budget problems by selling Shelby county to Arkansas. ;)

Nightcrawler,

Geez, did I miss you or am I completely spacing out on recalling your visit?

No matter. Ask for me next time you visit and your range fees are on me. (To make up for the grief I've given you over the years. See? I'm not an ogre in person. :D )

Welcome to Tennessee.

I still think we should solve all our budget problems by selling Shelby county to Arkansas.

Selling it would require admitting it was part of Tennessee. Except for the Butcher Shop, I consider that area part of the Mississippi that has yet to be reclaimed.

And yes, they do tend to call you a yankee " Which I hate" and think nothing of it. I just tell them Yanks are from the original 13 colonies and not the Midwest.

Y'all folks from the Midwest are included under a special dispensation. ALL states and territories that made up the Union during the War of Northern Aggression are Yankees. Granted, the New England Yankees are the worst of the breed:D

Nightcrawler, Coal Creek Armory's MP5 functioned flawlessly for me. About a hundred rounds.

Howdy, Tamara.

Coal Creek MP-5

I have rented it several times with no problems at all, I just think on this day it may have needed cleaning. I was telling Nightcrawler how unusual it was. I am kind of surprised so many board memebers are in the Knox area. Maybe we need to put together a knox shoot.

I probably won't be there for more than four years. I don't like being in one place too long.

Hmm, when you finish school it sounds like the perfect job for you would be going back into the military but as an officer. You definately would get moved around quite a bit.

Some things are going to take some getting used to.

Like being called a "yankee", for instance.

You can do what my uncle did. He moved to the Norfolk area for 15-20 years. Then he recently moved to Memphis with his family. When people ask where he is from, instead of saying Ohio (where he was raised) he can say pretty honestly that he is from Virginia. Thus, he isn't called a yankee anymore.

Move to TN for a few years, then move someplace else in the south and say you are from TN. They won't be calling you a yankee after that. :D

P.e.t.t.

Ok help me with that one... What is P.E.T.T.? I assume we arent talking Portable Enviromental Toliets are we?

NM i figured it out....People for the Ethical Treatment of Trees.....They can burn.....that tree was a threat, It almost killed Nightcrawler by dropping on him when his back was turned. It was Pre-meditated Self-defense.
