I have been trying to find some info on this online, but I am likely moving from North Carolina to South Carolina and trying to figure out what will happen to my NC CHL. It says on the NC firearm law PDF copy that you have to be a NC resident to be issued a CHL but it doesn't say anything about moving to a new state. Is there an easy way to switch to an SC permit without going through a class or long waiting period again?

You have 30 days to notify the issuing sheriff in NC of your move. If you were moving within the state, you would be issued a new permit with your new address. As you are moving out of state your permit is no longer valid. You'll have to get a SC permit. I have no idea what that process entails though.

I've been thinking of moving (not involving either NC or SC) and debating the possibility of getting a nonresident permit from another state before moving, making sure that it would be honored in the state I move to. Then I would have plenty of time to get a resident permit in the new state, with no gap in the ability to legally CCW. Only issue I can see would be if the state issuing the nonresident permit would somehow invalidate because I moved - but while I would need to research that, it seems unlikely that any state willing to issue a nonresident permit would have that sort of rule.

Here in SC your NC training is no good. You'll have take course and shoot, then comes the long 12 week wait. Sorry. Its weird that NC will Honor SC permit But not the other way around.

That's a good idea, but according to handgunlaw.us i don't think SC honors any non-resident permit in their state. You have to have a normal resident permit from another state that they have reciprocity with.
