Moving to gun friender states

After hearing about gun owners moving from PPK, NJ, NYC, etc to other states, I'm wonder how many moved from my state of Illinoise. I know many have moved from Chigco and/or Cook county.

To be honest I have given thought to moving to Tennessee, Kentucky, or some other state where you don't have a lot of antis trying pass silly laws.

Problem is, at least with Tennessee and Kentucky is there isn't a lot of jobs there.

My wife has a industrial settelment coming. As soon as it gets here.............
.....we are gone. Illinois will be a memory.

I was born here, my parents moved away before I was old enough to remember here. I lived out west for over 40 years. I moved back because of other relatives. They died. Nothing left here but bad memories.

Freedom calls........elsewhere!

Depends on what you do . I am blue collor always have been always will be . There is pleanty of work for people that want to work .

Wages here are different than mainland . Heck I was clearing $10 an hour at a Subway a few years back . But keep in mind stuff costs more . Sometimes a lot more . The first time I saw a gallon of milk for $5 I flipped out .

What about stuff like rent? What about taxes?

i moved from cook county to florida a year ago but that was before i was into guns as much as i am now.

That all depends on where you live . Rent here on island runs from $750 a month on up for a two + bedroom . There is no state taxes , and I don't own a home so I don't know the property taxes for here . We do have a 6.25% sales tax , and I know that anchorage does not have a sales tax .
Gas is curently $2.27 a gal for cheapy . Which is whack with as much oil as we have here .

Moved from Michigan to Nevada. Before I moved, I was looking at a couple of states, and stopped in las Vegas for a little R&R. I was in a mall connected to a casino, when I saw a man in a cowboy hat with a lit stogie, an open beer, and a six-shooter hanging in a fancy rig. I said to myself then and there, "Oh man, I gotta move here!"

The job market is pretty good, but housing has gone WAY up, mostly because of the socialists fleeing the PRK.

Arizona is still a good choice, but it appears that the Texans are legislating their cajones away. (No offense, I got a few great friends there, and everyone I've met were really nice, but those new Blue Laws they got and the gun laws are getting kind of kooky.)

Although IL isn't as bad as some other states, IF I did wanted to move to another state due to better gun laws and other reasons, there are things I'll be looking for:

No requirement to have been issued some type of Firearms Owner ID card
No permit needed in order to buy any gun(this leaves out MO)
No reqistration of any kind
No waiting period

I left the People's Republic of California to return to the United States two years ago. My only regret is that I didn't do it years sooner.

I take it you didn't move to Denver? I've heard that city is just as bad as PPK when it comes to guns.

Colorado

I moved here in 1973... escaped from Michigan, the land of pistol permits and no CCW licenses. First thing I did when I got here was get a pistol or two, denied me in Michigan. Colorado is a right to carry, right to own gun state and we need more good folks to help keep the libs out of power here. State law supercedes local law on the carry issue and semi-autos are ownable everywhere but the black hole that is Denver. Full autos are likewise ownable under provisions of Fed law. Open pistol carry has always been legal here, and GENERALLY the cops are OK with gun ownership- Denver excepted. We were also the first IIRC to pass the Make My Day home defense law. Jobs are crappy unless you are a high-techie or medical or some professional career. Climate is dry-ish and usually sunny. Gun-law wise the only better States would be Vermont and Alaska. There are others just as open, few better.

!!

I was stationed in Colorado from 1993 to 2002. We put in for orders to California in 2002 just so that we could be closer to (HER) family. Things didn't work out as planned and the A.F. inactivated my unit 1 July 04, so back to Colorado we went! I bought a really nice house in Centennial and wife got her old job back with Echostar. I have not missed California one bit and will soon be applying for my CCW permit. I love Colorado!!!

virginia, checking in... take your pick of region (northern virginia vs slower virginia), we've got everything worth covering covered.

economy (here in nova at least) is better than nearly anywhere else. traffic can be bad.

laws are pretty good, too. long live vcdl!

Move one state east. We have two of the top 25 fastest growing counties nationwide right here in central Indiana. And we're as gun friendly as can be.

PA!

Gotta put a vote in for PA. Shall issue, no registration of weapons, Fed regs only on FAs, instant background checks so no waiting period. Oh, and no FOID.

Also no onerous restictions on carry, open carry with no permit (except Philly where a state permit is needed), and state premeption law.

What a Great State!

Also umemployment rate in my county (Lancaster) is below 5%. Employers are BEGGING for people to work...

always heard denver was bad in a criminal sense too tho...

guess those (strict) gun laws ain't effecting the gangs.....

heh - go figure right?

J/Tharg!

I'm another Illinois resident who wishes for more gun freedom than this state allows. I have to move next year to the eastern edge of the state just south of Chicago, and have considered going just a few miles further east and living in Indiana. At least Indiana allows for concealed carry permits. But since I would be spending most of my time in Illinois, I wonder how much gain I would realize. I wonder how many Hoosiers with concealed carry permits take their guns with them when crossing the border into the Land of Lincoln despite the illegality of such behavior. I would be sorely tempted.

There is an old saying: "It's only illegel if you get caught". Now I'm not saying go ahead and break any laws. But generally speaking people are not inclined to obey laws that will put their lives at risk, or for that matter laws that are basicely stuiped.

I was going to suggest that if you didn't want to have to move very far Indiana was about as good as you can get. Also I think Kentucky is pretty good, and Tennessee, and Missouri and Minnesota and Michigan are a lot better than Illinois, yet close (depending on where in the state you are). I think of northwestern Indiana and even extreme southwest michigan and being practically chicago burbs.
