I don't know much about the MP5 platform other than its an HK product. I do know about the different models and Rules about an SBR and having a $200 tax for registering with the ATF. But i am simply interested in finding out if i would be better off looking for a semi-auto Clone, or a semi-auto Original. Iv'e heard of Bobcat Firearm's Clone but is it reliable? If you have any information I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you! -Danny

The only "semi-auto original" MP-5 is the HK SP89. That is a semi-auto pistol without a buttstock. It was only imported for a few years and is hard to find today. Current prices are over $3K when you find one. Here's a link with some info.

As far as other clones, they are a variety out there, but I don't know enough about any of them to be any help.

Thanks Trebor

Thanks for the info Trebor. I've seen the Pistol Option's and although i am impressed, i'm a sucker for the MP5 A5 Look. Thanks again, I look forward to hearing more from you seeing as how this is my first thread ever.

Glad to help. Welcome to the forum. When you have some time searching through the old threads in the "Rifle" section should turn up some more info.

DScott - If I remember correctly, the guy who runs Bobcat is the same guy behind Hesse and Vulcan Arms, and they're all utter pieces of junk. Shoddy materials, improper machining, much "cutting corners", including actual defects in guns that made it to the public that could have caused Kabooms...I remember reading a thread on another messageboard (for the life of me I can't remember which one, I'll try to dig it up) where people were being delivered guns that had been SPRAYPAINTED.

Seriously.

Google Bobcat Firearms, or Hesse, or Vulcan. Not good stuff.

Wow, after reading that all I can say is "what a slime bag"

Its hard to believe that customer service can actually be completley erased from a retailers code of business as it was with todd bailey. The guy hates dealing with the public, well most likley thats true because he's completley unreasonable. Customers 95% of the time are reasonable, and can always be dealt with and made happy when things go bad with good customer service.

That photo was great, was the guy really handing him a lawsuit???? lol, going to post it here for everyone to see

What ever happened with this? Did the guy sue him and get some sweet justice or what?

The only "semi-auto original" MP-5 is the HK SP89.
The original is the HK94. The SP89 is a MP5K copy. The HK94's came with either a standard(A2) or sliding stock(A3) and 16" barrel with a vented shroud.

The HK's in either configuration are pricey these days, but as with most things HK, flawless in operation. If you've got the bucks, I'd go with the HK.

I guess the only way i'll ever own an MP5 is if i get the original than. Not that thats bad, HK is top of the line stuff!

I have a new in the box H & K 94 w/ collapsable stock that I am thing of selling, but I don't know the current market price on it.

Thanks shooting time, i would absolutely love to own an HK94, but have nowhere near that cash to spend on it. Thank you for the offer though, i'm truly flattered! If i had to guess the price i would bet its anywhere from 2,500 and up. And thats just my guess, i truly have no idea!

Can that be made into an SBR and why the heck did Daddy Bush issue an executive order banning their importation? If it can be an SBR I think I have found a long term project to fund.

there is a lot out there regarding this vendor and product.

i had purchased and tried out a few Special Weapons SW-5's.

they were all overpriced jam-o-matic JUNK.

There are not many REAL MP5's out there, supposedly the NFA registry does have a few transferrable MP5's on it. A HK94 converted to full auto by way of a registered receiver or registered sear is going to be costly undertaking. Plus, you have to live in CIII friendly state towards full auto. Otherwise HK94's were converted by S&H, Vollmer, and a host of others some better then others and well some...... I once saw a Billlistics conversion to MP5A3SD config up against a German dealer sample and there was no outward differences. Getting a CA DOJ turn in 94 and doing SBR is a costly undertaking.

The original is the HK94.

D'uh! I knew that too. I wonder why I totally forgot about the HK 94? I've even seen them and handled them from time to time.

Todd Bailey has a very poor reputation; as such, I would not suggest taking a chance with one of his products...

However, one of his companies, Cohaire Arms (www.hk54.com is the closest you'll find to an official website) has a lot of fans and I have not heard about any crap coming from them. I've even heard that Vector clones are made on CA receivers, but I can't confirm this.
Cohaire Arms has some very cool original products out there like an integrally suppressed 9mm SP89-style pistol for instance.
Also an integrally suppressed .223 HK rifle that uses AR-15 mags - yowza.

Red Rock Arms (formerly Bobcat Weapons, renamed due to a pre-existing company with name of Bobcat suing them) actually looks okay. However I have not heard any reviews, positive or negative, about them.

One can't go wrong with Vector, but there are other options out there.

There seems to be an interesting company called S&H, but I can't get any info about them at all except for here:

My semi-autos thread has plenty of HK clones and information.

The Bobcats generally run better than the SW copies. Vectors are pretty good, as are teh Cohairie. If you want an HK94, you're looking at about $2500 for teh DOJ guns, and more for regular models.

Hesse and Vulcan are different hacks than Bailey.

Swiss Made mp5 clone, BT-96 from Brügger&Thomet

Anybody know the Swiss MP-5 clone, named BT-96?
It's looks like this: bt96.jpg

In Switzerland this semi-auto, folding stock version cost CHF 3250 (approx. US$ 2500) with rifle sling and cleaning kit.
Finish and quality is the same, maybe even beter the original HK. Same parts are Swiss Made and same parts are original imported from HK Germany.

Here some information on english.
