i am in the market for a short barrelled rifle and i have been wanting an mp5 clone like the bobcat firearms makes, i know they don't make a .357sig, but are there any gun makers that make one in .357 sig that anyone knows about? i will probally have to end up going 9mm, but wouldn't that be awesome! a .357 mp5!:)

also does anyone have an mp5 clone, especailly the bobcat models? i would love to hear what ya'll have to say about them and ya'lls opinions! thanks in advance!

I saw a review in a gun rag a couple years ago about an AR in .357 Sig. The cartridge seems to benefit from the longer barrel from what I recall reading. I think that cartridge in a carbine is a cool choice, if you can afford the ammo bill.

third rail,
thanks that is exactly what i was looking for; that is sweet!:D
spooky,
yeah that is the only draw back ammo is crazy expensive, especially in the voulmes i like to shoot!
thanks guys!

You're welcome - sometimes I have more time than I know what to do with, so I find all these neat firearms.

Third Rail

I am not happy with you at all. I think you just cost me $1500 dollars or so.

I'll add you to the list of people that are lighter financially because of my researches. :)

you know what? bushmaster is about to come out with an ar clone, in what is called 45 bushmaster. it is a 45 cal bullet, where it and the case together , is as long as a 223. Kinda like a super long 45 long colt.

Several mfg make a 10MM version of the MP5. High velocity---think FBI and Secret Service use them.

what's easier?

i would like to get one of the mp5 clones and make it a sbr after all the legalities of course. would it be easier to get one the pistol models and then put the buttstock on, or get one with the fake suppressors and take off the suppressor?

I would say, buy it as a SBR to start. The pistols are most likely welded up so you cant get a stock on them, and the barrels would either need to be cut down and recrowned, or replaced with a standard barrel.

If you're open to doing a Form 4 instead of a Form 1, just buy it SBR. If you're set on doing it yourself on a Form 1, go with the long barrel without fake suppressor, just long barrel. You can remove the barrel and have it shortened and recrowned in a local machine shop if you don't have a lathe yourself.

third rail,
thanks that is what i was thinking too, using a dremel tool on a $1500 weapon kinda makes me nervous, tyring to take that fake supressor off! i preciate all the help!

if you want to sbr the gun the easiest way to do that will be to start with a pistol. there is nothing keeping you from attatching a stock to it(once you get your approved form 1 back.) The second easiest way is to get a F/S model (fake supressor.) it's a bit more involved than conveting a pistol as you have to remove the blind pin holding on the F/S and you usually have to cut the end if the supressor tube as they are pressed on and don't like to come of easily.

Now if you use either the pistol or the F/S rifle you will allready have the correct length three lug barrel.

If you go w/ the 16" barrel it will have to be pressed out then you will have to buy another barrel (if you want it to be a three lug) then press it in and re headspace it.

Also in case anyone didnt know all mp5 clone parts are made by Special Weapons (vector, bobcat, SW) they are however assembeled by the respective companies, so there can be differences in fit and finish. you may also want to call and check w/ vector and bobcat to see if they currently have any clones in stock as they both seem to have had a falling out w/ the owner of SW
