Dug mine out, gave it a cleaning, past due for a range run.
What is the current status of MSAR? Any opinions here on their version of the AUG?
Pleasantly reminded just how nicely the rifle is made, 1:8 twist, but a more complicated takedown than an AR.
Too, the Austrians (and their American cousins) have an odd notion of lubrication (see "GLOCK"), the manual really doesn't want much lube, again, different than an AR.
Any notion on the availability of magazines? I've seen NOS for $200, and others for $10 (!).
General notions/opinions about the guns themselves?
Thanks in advance,
Moon

I had one of those. They cranked out a ton of them at the end, of questionable quality. I sold mine at the very end, before the gun went away. And, later I bought a really Steyr AUG.

I did not trust my MSAR AUG. It had a tendency to not fire when reassembled. Then, I'd take it apart - everything would look fine. I'd put it back together. And - it would work. But, this happened almost every other range trip.

Unless I cleaned it and then fired it once after reassembly - I just couldn't trust it. I never knew why it kept happening. It wasn't complicated to reassemble, and everything always looked fine.

I have heard of others having the same issue

Hmmm. Never any such issues with mine. Their rep back in the day was quite good.

If you were on AR15.com back in the day, you would have seen at the time there were issues. They worked with people, but at the end, I have read the claim that they were cranking out problem guns

I had one. It was, shall we say, quirky -- initial loading was problematic, with frequent failures to feed. However, once you got it up and running, it was fine. Don't know if it was a hardware problem or user problem, but I decided that it wasn't worth figuring out as I had other rifles that weren't so quirky. I held on to it as a "fun gun" but eventually sold it. I wouldn't mind having another bullpup (an actual AUG, perhaps?) but only if it ran STANAG mags.

Got one. Bought it years ago before some folks started having problems. It has always run perfectly, no gripes. Very accurate. I am more spooked by the fixed optic than the rifle mechanicals, although it has been fine.

I still have one. It runs like a top but suffers from typical bullpup-triggeritis. It doesn't get much range time these days but it is part of my collection.

Mine has always run like a top; full disclosure, it doesn't have a really high round count.
On the horns of what to do with mine; it looks just like the early Steyrs, and just has a sleek, evil appearance. It isn't goobered with Pic rails (however useful), and mine even has a decent trigger.
I even like the integral optic.
I am trying to thin the herd a little, and especially magazines. Having to squirrel proprietary mags (in this day of forever proposed bans) is just a PITA. I've a good stock of USGI AR mags.
Inertia being what it is, it may simply go back in the safe.
