MTV's Holocaust education.

hard to say ?

many left are left to stay and will turn it and discount it and try to point to other things happening etc...
or say the US is doing this now etc..

I can hope it will open some eyes ? but I have lost much faith with many and hope the next generation will be better ????

A step in the right direction would be if they gave some indication that one of the primary methods in achieving successful genocide is the banning of firearms prior to any attempt.

I think the message we're seeing isn't the message MTV wants to send. I get the feeling it's more a message of acceptance of your fellow man (what with the current climate on immigration), masked in an edgy "anti-government" ad.

Wow. Very powerful. My goosebumps should subside any moment now.

I agree with valtr0n's last paragraph, and I think it is probably a good bit of both the message we want to make of it, and the message MTV intends. Either way, it works.

I liked it. It's a great message. A lot of people in my generation feel totally disconnected from the Holocaust and forget that it really wasn't that long ago.

I've talked to holocaust survivors (my aunt's father was in Auschwitz and watched his entire family get gunned down in front of him) and I would be lying if I said that nothing like it would ever happen again. The fact is, genocide occurs on a daily basis worldwide.

If the terrorists get their way, I'm sure there would be another Holocaust, only everybody in America and more would be a part of it.

For those who don't think it could ever happen again, you need not look any farther than googling "KKK" and reading some of the forums that their members post in. If nothing else, the fact that many of their emails and screen-names incorporate the word "nazi" should be a good hint as to the continued existence of that kind of thinking and hatred.

Not sure what "Think" is, but if it is like "Rock the Vote", then it is just another left-wing group.

I'm not really sure what this ad is trying to say. Wonder if it is basically an anti-patriot act ad. I've spent half a day at the holocaust museum, which is more than enough time there to realize the horror of that time for Jews in Germany. To me what is even almost worse than Hitler's actions were those of the general public, which seemed to have been brainwashed into hating the Jews.

Too bad they didn't include any information on executive order 13286 in it. That might serve to open some young eyes up to history's consequences of disarmament, also.

In high school, I spent an entire semester in an English class devoted solely to literature from and about the Holocaust. It was one of the most interesting classes I ever took.

And for those visiting or living near St. Petersburg, Florida, the Holocaust museum there is quite good too.

I rarely have anything high road to say about MTV. but at least they're trying.

I agree with LAK.
Great commercials, but if we're talking about genocide, we need to include the Communist genocides also.
And we can't forget the homosexuals, the mentally handicapped,,the Gypsies, the political prisoners, POWs, etc. etc. also killed by the Nazis.

Since I went to college in 1968, do you have any idea on how many silly debates I've heard where a debater accuses his opponent of being a Nazi?

I've heard the liberals reminded that the National Socialists were a left-wing faction, I've heard that Bush43 has a Nazi agenda over The Patriot Act, I've heard bikers be accused of being Nazis because they wear chromed Fritzie helmets.

Get a clue. A Nazi is a Nazi. When your debating opponent tries to scare you and chill the audience, it means you're winning.

A townie grabbed a biker once. In defense, the biker spun around 360 degrees and firmly planted an elbow blow right on the townie's temple. The townie squealed, yelled "Unfair" and accused the biker of "fighting like a girl."

The townie then passed out cold.

VIRGIL CAINE - "Great commercials, but if we're talking about genocide, we need to include the Communist genocides also."

Those dozens of millions of people butchered by the communists don't count.

Afterall, the communists were butchering millions of worker peasants for the greater good of the collective. Nothing wrong with that. Just ask a left wing liberal progressive. :uhoh:

L.W.

Based on MTV's history of left wing politics, I think the underlying message is "America is becoming a police state under Bu****ler and if you don't vote for the black guy you are a Nazi racist"

But if they have a credible alternative explanation I would like to hear it.

I am friends with Holocaust survivors, guys who can tell you where they were and what they were doing when Germany invaded Poland. I think using Holocaust and Nazi imagery to score political points is obscene.

Lets not forget American Indians / Native American's either.

They got the Purple Barbed Shaft too!

rcmodel

I do not know of any USA citizen's torn from their homes by a gestapo raid. Our liberal debaters still want me to consider that under Bush's actions as President.

But let's face it, the idea of storm-troopers seizing people hidden in closets with German submachine guns is a powerful image, and in that regard, I agree.

I speak of the arrest of Elian Gonzalez, pulled from hiding at the barrel of a H&K MP-5. I believe Clinton was the President at that time.

See? You can make anyone a Nazi if you're good at debating.

I'm pretty sure that the members of the third reich no longer have a strong political foothold in any country.

So, there are pseudo-nazis and neo-nazis and skinheads, but no real nazis.
I always hate it when people point the hitler finger anyway.
But lets try to keep the political arguments closer to nonexistent.
It's not what THR is about anyway. That's why people pick this forum over others.

I agree completely. It's just the sign of a lousy debater. If you had a good command of the language and history you could express your ideas without hyperbole.

Speaking of THR, I just saw a picture of a mass grave at death camp to evoke an emotional response on the affront to personal defense. Yikes.

Heck, I don't think the issue of "straight pipes" is a big deal at all. Be honest, in today's air-tight, A/C infused automobiles, how many times has a motorcyclist "surprised" you as he passed? If you're honest, they do it all of the time. If loud pipes were really the issue, we'd hear motorcycles everywhere. The largest contributor to road noise is the slapping of tire tread on concrete.

So what would you have me do? Call every biker-hater a "chrome Nazi?" Everytime a newspaper calls for a helmet law should I publish a photo of a death camp with a caption, "...this has happened before..."

It's a cheap shot. Learn to express yourself without grunting.

Besides, did you ever meet a skinhead? If these posers ever shared oxygen with a real SS Officer we'd be passing out Depends Undergarments.

Finally, I agree with comments on the tone and quality of THR. I want to debate other adults. I want to read stuff that makes me think, even if that means losing a discussion from time to time. If you stop learning, you stop thinking. And frankly, that concept is getting pretty rare.

my 2 cents

Found this on www.whatreallyhappened.com ; I'm sure more info is available if you really want to dig... and if you ask me, Israel can kiss my ass.

44 Million USD for the Holocaust™ Museum and a paltry $200,000.00 for the "National Moment of Rememberance", which honors our veterans.

Check out these figures from our U.S. "Knesset" in D.C. Millions and millions of dollars for the U.S. Holocaust™ Museum, but a paltry 200K for our brave veterans, many of whom have paid the ultimate price fighting wars.

H.R.2643

Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2008 (Reported in House)

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

holocaust memorial museum

For expenses of the Holocaust Memorial Museum, as authorized by Public Law 106-292 (36 U.S.C. 2301-2310), $44,996,000, of which $515,000 for the equipment replacement program shall remain available until September 30, 2009; and $1,900,000 for the museum's repair and rehabilitation program and $1,264,000 for the museum's exhibition design and production program shall remain available until expended.

44 MILLION of our tax dollars to lay a collective "guilt trip" on this nation. Which, of course, can only be assuaged by giving even more money to Israel and anything that is remotely associated with the Holocaust™.

Adding insult to injury, the U.S. Congress has decided to give 5 MILLION of OUR tax dollars to Poland to help them build a museum dedicated to Poland's Jews, that will be located in Warsaw, Poland. Any guess as to what that museum will be about?

110th CONGRESS 1st Session
H. R. 3320

AN ACT
To provide assistance for the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw, Poland.

SEC. 3. ASSISTANCE FOR THE MUSEUM OF THE HISTORY OF POLISH JEWS.

(a) In General- Assistance provided by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the Department of State shall be made available to assist in the development of the permanent collection of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews.
(b) Authorization for Assistance- To carry out the purposes of subsection (a), the Secretary of State is authorized to provide $5,000,000, which shall remain available until expended, to the Museum for the History of Polish Jews.

44 Million for the US Holocaust™ Museum, 5 MILLION to Poland for their Holocaust™ museum, but only a mere 200 K for the "National Moment of Remembrance", which is a MOMENT set aside to honor our veterans. Gosh, think Congress can even spare a MOMENT to honor our vets?

Maybe they'll find the time in between trips to Israel?

Over the last couple of years, OUR Congress has taken over 663 trips to Israel.

Guess that's why they only have a MOMENT for our vets.

H.R.2643

Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2008 (Engrossed as Agreed to or Passed by House)

White House Commission on the National Moment of Remembrance

(INCLUDING TRANSFER OF FUNDS)

For necessary expenses of the White House Commission on the National Moment of Remembrance , $200,000, which shall be transferred to the Department of Veterans Affairs, `Departmental Administration, General Operating Expenses' account and be administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

Only a MOMENT spent honoring our vets, yet they do have the time to spend DAYS honoring, that's right, the Holocaust™, as evidenced by this article.

Anniversaries of Warsaw Ghetto uprising, museum establishment noted

"In communities, religious institutions, schools and other facilities across the United States, Americans paused this week to mark the annual "Days of Remembrance," the nation's collective fulfillment of its commitment to "remember" the events of the Holocaust six decades ago.

that's right, the Holocaust™

I don't think anybody asked for your anti-semitic take on the holocaust mike. Jews aren't trying to take over the world. You can take off your tin foil hat.

anti-semitic...our tin foil hat

Obviously, this is an emotionally charged issue. In fact, even after well over 100 years you can still evoke a maelstrom of anger and implications you're a racist if you opine that The Southern Struggle for Independence was a "states' rights" issue.

I was in college when I heard the concept that Holocaust photos might actually be war dead from Dunkirk. While I'm not anti-semitic, I had not heard that argument simply because it can only be said in hushed tones. We have become so sensitive on such issues that even an intelligent conversation must be stifled and chilled.

(In fact, a Jewish boy in my dorm took me aside and quietly explained the Dunkirk issue. It was like we snuck off to sell cocaine. It's tragic that this is the way I had to learn about history.)

BTW, I was forty before I heard that Third Reich Nazis actually came to my home town of Milwaukee and gave a speech. In a bank downtown (the old M&I, I believe), there are still (or were) mosaic swastikas in the floor.

Did you know that? Why didn't you?

Edit: I was born in Milwaukee, and much of my family is actually German and Polish. I was never told by my family about that faction of history.

If you want your eyes opened, sometime google something like "German American Bund Milwaukee." I hope it scares you. But moreover, it is a topic that cannot be discussed for fear of backlash. That generation of Milwaukee is long since dead. I doubt we could even mention it today.

It can only be said in hushed tones because it's historical revisionism and offensive. The dead individuals in those photos died a horrific death. By believing such drivel, you're basically questioning the existence of their assuredly terrifying last moments in this world and assuming that the survivors of the Holocaust who saw the countless dead bodies are nothing more than liars.

We have become so sensitive on such issues that even an intelligent conversation must be stifled and chilled.

How is questioning whether the Holocaust happened intelligent conversation?

(In fact, a Jewish boy in my dorm took me aside and quietly explained the Dunkirk issue. It was like we snuck off to sell cocaine. It's tragic that this is the way I had to learn about history.)

So he explained that some anti-semitic individuals question whether Holocaust photos are real and whether it happened at all. It doesn't mean that this is the case. It just means there are some uneducated callous individuals out there who would rather believe that Jews are trying to take over the world with a hoax than the simple reality that genocide occurs at a staggering pace worldwide.

It's a ridiculous notion, and if you talked about it around the survivors I know, you'd give them a heart attack.

ETA: The_Tourist - While I sounded like I was directing this at you, I didn't mean to sound like that. I was just voicing my opinion on that whole idea/notion. I don't want you to think I'm specifically attacking you.
