I've had my .45 Colt 4" Redhawk for a month or so, and after a couple of enhancements I am pleased with it.

Mine came from the factory with a 9# trigger pull on S/A. After four hundred rounds and some polishing it's now at 5# and is reasonably crisp. D/A pull is now around 9#. The spring is completely stock.

The Hogue grips were uncomfortable for me, in my opinion are ugly, and are a royal pain to take off and put on. I now have Pachmayr Presentation grips on the gun, and much prefer them.

If you want to use the standard wooden Redhawk grips you will need the regular style grip locator (available from Brownell's for less than $3). The Pachmayrs will work with either the grip locator provided with the 4" that is designed for the Hogue monstrosities, or with the older style.

Accuracy is good, with my best results so far coming from 255 cast SWC's and W/W 231 powder loaded to approximate standard factory loads. It also does well with Hornady 250 XTP's and Blue Dot.

I have one in 44mag and was trying to decide if I want the 45 version or the Alaskan 454 mainly for 45colt :)

I am waiting on my .44...

I get it in a week or so. My dealer had a couple so I chose the one with the best trigger. It is really nice. Can't wait to shoot it.

Same for me, only I have the .44 mag. They make the heavy .44 mag loads much more pleasant to shoot than the original Hogues.

MortalWombat - your Redhawk with the Pachmayr grips looks just perfect!

I've been debating between a 629, a Dan Wesson or a Redhawk.

Right now I'm leaning a little more towards the Redhawk!!

For the love of Mary!!!!! That is one great looking revolver!! Absolute perfection!!
I sure hope Ruger brings it out in .357 & .41, like they did w/the 5 1/2" Redhawks back in the 80's!!!!

One thing to keep in mind: The Pachmayr Presentations on the Redhawk are pretty large grips. It's probably one of the reasons they soak up recoil so well. If you have smaller hands, they may not feel right though.

I have large hands ( XL glove size) and the Pachmayrs are fine for me. Today, however, I tried the 4" Redhawk with factory wood grips, and I plan to leave them on the gun for the time being. They seemed better to me for D/A, and were fine for loads up to a 300 grain bullet at 1000 fps. For heavier loads, I'll go back tp the Pachmayrs.

I also fired a Ruger Bisley with factory grips, and the two were quite similar in feel.

"the pachmayr presentations are pretty large grips'

That is very good news for me too since I have XL hands!

Just this month I have replaced the grips on my 642 and single-six with full-size grips.

For those of you who have taken a redhawk apart for cleaning - how difficult?
