My 7yr old daughter has taken an interest in shooting with me. She knows the 4 rules of safe gun handling, and does really well when we target shoot. She handles her Ruger Bearcat .22 like an old pro (with me watching VERY closely ofcourse).

Yesterday, her 2nd grade teacher relayed a story to us that made me smile. The school had a local LEO in to give a low key talk about gun safety to the kids. After talking about what to do if one of the students found a gun (Eddie Eagle type instruction) he pulls out an unloaded magazine from his pocket and asks the audience if they know what it is. Well my daughter promptly raises her hand and tells the officer that it is called a “magazine”. Insert proud dad icon here… :) she really IS listening to me afterall. The LEO takes a moment, and then proceeds to say that in the 8 plus years that he has given these type of talks, she was the first person to call it a magazine, and not a clip. (presumably edumakated from TV)

My wife and I had a nice conversation with her teacher about target shooting , hunting and gun ownership too. Educate whom ever, where ever you get a chance is the name of the game I guess.

Anyway, the next generation of “gunnies” is one member stronger.

Excellent, she can even post on gun forums without getting blasted for improper terminology.

I hope I teach my daughter as well.

Thanks for the kind words Gentlemen, and I will pass them on to my daughter as well. With all the “magazine vs. clip” discussions on the online forums, I did get a chuckle out of her correct use of the term, and from the description of the LEO’s reaction, I think he did too.

Yes, I am very proud of her and also quite happy that she has shown an interest in shooting and guns in general… I do dread the day that I will be finishing stocks in pink tho.

Oh man, am I glad the CZ Scout .22s only come with traditional finished stocks... but I fully expect to have to strip the finish off of them some day and make them "pretty".

I really don't mind, would do anything for my two girls. Just don't anybody tell them that.;)
