Folks my 20 inch barrel H bar AR15 is sporting a Bariska red dot scope on a flat top

I wanted to laser bore site it before shooting as ammo is just to costly to site in other wise

I have it dead on at 37 yards -that’s about all the range I have as I am sighting it in on the garage wall

I will be shooting several boxes Winchester Q3131A at the range at 50 yards

Would any one more familiar with the AR15 plat form than I ( many of you) and know what I may expect to be hitting at 50 yards?

I will be going to the range ( just joined!) this week and hope to get it on paper on 50 yards without to
Much ammo

So, any advice or information would be greatly appreciated!

I would like to also learn to use the iron sites, but, my eyes are crap:(-so its red dot for now!

Thanks all,

Sinjin

when you get to the range, make sure to bring a target with a grid. This way you will be able to quickly adjust your red dot by just glancing at the grid. If your red dot has 1/4 MOA adjustments (and it most likely does) than at 50 yards you have to go 8 clicks per inch desired direction so just count how many squares are you away from the center and you are set.
when you get close to the center, don't make adjustments based on one shot. instead fire 2 or 3 shot groups and adjust for the group and not for single shot since the red dots are not that precise.

Thanks all-you just saved me some ammo and a lot of confusion.

I believe a 36 yard zero should put you pretty close to a 300 yard zero....

Use that table, I would imagine a 200 yard zero would be more practical anyways.

W.E.G., that image is a CLASSIC! You gotta love the military for mixing up units of measurement - showing trajectory in inches for various distances in meters.

I gotta ask, Your garage is 37 yards (111 feet) inside? That is a nice size garage.

picnic table with rifle in brace-to- interior garage wall- place is more of a shoe box:(

I would measure the height from your bore center to the center of your sight, then decide the ammo you want to zero with, then decide what range you want to be zeroed at. Try a ballistic calculator like this one to determine where you will hit at various ranges.

A 200 yard zero is not a bad place to start for a 5.56. Your current 37 yard zero will bring you pretty close to that at 200 yards. Depending on how high your sight is, you ought to be about 1/2" high at 50 yards with your current zero (if the sight is 1.75" above the bore axis) using 55g ammo loaded to +3000 fps.

Good luck.
