i called the ATF today to get a C&R application, and they told me that they'll send me one  , i'm not a fan of shotgun but i may get a mossberg 500 :D , and i have a pistol too, once i get my C&R i want to start a Mauser Collection by country, German, Spain, Argentina, Yugoslavia...i don't own a single mauser and as far as i know, once you get the C&R you need to log all rifles you get with the License right? well before i start my mauser collection, what other weapon should i get (something for plinking/fun) no Rugers or Garand please, the garand is going to be a gift and i dont like rugers. By the way, this is what i have.

C&R 03

it's a license that you can get (after a good ATF background check) for $30.00, then you can buy any weapon that is a C&R 03 and have it shipped right to your door instead of using a FFL 01 dealer (this is not to buy and sell C&R weapons) this is for your OWN collection but you save in transfer fees and paper work.

What exactly is a curio or relic? Is it just a rifle or does it need to be of a certain age?

A Curio and Relic is any firearm (not just rifle) that are either 50 years old or older, or are specifically mentioned on the C&R list put out by the ATF.

http://www.atf.treas.gov/firearms/curios/index.htm

There are some firearms that are on the Curio and Relic list because they were made specifically for collectors, others because of their age.

One that seems to surprise people is the Colt 1911. Colt put out a couple Commemorative pistols in the 70's. They were pre-series 70's and very well made. There were a couple for WWI and a couple for WWII. I had a nickel plated one that honored the battles of the Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO) there was another for the ETO (European Theater). You can sometimes find them on GunBroker for sale.

The advantage of having a C&R FFL is that firearms that qualify can be shipped directly to you from out of state - even machine guns. :) Lets say you have an extra few grand and find a C&R eligible Sten full auto for sale ... you contact the seller and pay them for the gun. He fills out his part and sends you the Form 4. You fill out your portions and send it to the ATF. Once approved, the ATF sends the approved form to the seller. Then the seller sends your approved form and the machinegun directly to your door. No dealers, no dealer fees!

Looks like you're in serious need of a K31.

What??? No Swiss rifle in your collection? Are you UnAmerican?

+1

K31 is an absolute must. I bought one before I bought my Mauser - and I had originally set out looking for a Mauser!

For a plinker/fun gun you could add a semi-auto 22lr. You don't like ruger, but the 10/22 is an excellent rifle. You could also add a M1 carbine or another AR. How about a 22LR conversion for your AR? I don't know what your budget is, but a suppressor wouldn't be a bad idea either. On the other hand, a suppressor can be cheaper than getting another rifle.

it would be interesting if you took your AK and SKS with a few digfferent brands of ammo and benched it at 50 or 100 and showed the results of 5 shot groups.

thanks
