Ha! Found a thread, 4 months old, but about the C15!
I just bought myself one of these Century C15 Sporters. Got it early last week(first of September). Works great, and fine accuracy. Eats anything 5.56mm or .223 just fine(so far).
I did a bit of research before I bought the Century C15. Basicaly, for the price of the upper and lower parts to assemble my own A2 rifle, I could buy the Century and have a complete rifle in the configuration I wanted. I got mine for right at $600 plus tax, which is within a few dollars of piecing an A2 rifle together.
Lots of internet rumor floating around about these rifles! Supposidly Colt M16A2 surplus rifles from some South American country. Century converted these into the C15 sporters.
I do notice that my identifiable upper parts are Colt marked. The barrel appears to be new, and a heavy barrel to boot. The bolt carrier is re-machined, but is well enough done that I didn't notice it at first. Not nearly as sloppy a machine job as I've heard of on these.
The lower is a forged part, with a mix of new and old internals. Upper to lower fit is fair. I had two rifles to choose from and I chose the tightest fitting one. Furniture is new The upper receiver is re-finished and is a fair match for the new lower. A lot of the small pieces are old parts, somere-finished, some not.
Not a identifying mark visable on the barrel! She has a 1-7 to 1-8 twist, and I think it's chromed, but no telling where the barrel came from. The barrel is almost certainly a new, non military barrel.
Works great! I had carried M16A1 rifles in the National Guard. Briefly using the A2 version before disharging from the Guard. I aquired a Daewoo K1A1 carbine some years back, which is close to an AR but not all that close! The Daewoo does share the same basic design and gas system(the carbine does anyhow).
All that said, the Century Sporter is a decent shooter AR. I suppose it's about like any other Century re-furb and had better be inspected prior to purchase.
Just not a whole lot of factual info around about these Century AR rifles. The Century website doesn't even list the C15 that I could find. Google searches turn up contradictory info, mostly from forums and non owners ragging poor old Century for the shoddy work they've turned out in the past!
Does anybody have any real info about where these rifles came from, or what barrel might be installed?
Thanx, Stevie.
