I went to Cross Timbers and shot my first IDPA last night and let me tell ya, it was SOOOOOOOOOO much FUUUUUNNNN. I had an absolute BLAST. Everyone was very nice, helpfull, eager to answer any questions I had. HighVelocity took his time and explained everything to me and constantly made sure all my questioned were. Just a great group of people. I want to thank everyone for their help and making me feel so welcome. I will be back.
I AM HOOKED !!!

ahh, man. I'm stoked. my first match will be tomorrow morning. I can't wait. How'd you do? Plans on getting anything new? Anything you didn't bring that you wish you did? Anything that you brought that you shouldn't have? did you shoot only one category or did you bring multiple guns? sorry for all the questions, I'm a newb too that's excited.

I was in a rush when I left for work that day and I made it there without my shooting glasses, mag holder, or cover vest. However, people were eager to help and loan me what I needed. I will be more prepared next time. Other than that I think I had everything I needed and not much I didnt.

My best advise is be prepared to HAVE FUN,
and good luck

getting ready for intro to IDPA

A local club is running an all day class this weekend - intro to IDPA. Half day in class, the other half on the range.

Among the required equipment are 4+ mags, holster, and mag pouch. I currently have a Fobus paddle and single-mag paddle pouch for this gun.

Is this pouch sufficient, or do I need two-mag pouch(es)? Would a cargo pocket do in a pinch?

highly suggest getting another mag holder. it "might" work, but would not be ideal, especially when your running around, taking cover to dig around in your pocket for a mag. Your going to wish you had another holder when your out there. But sure, it'll "work". You only need 3 and can only have 3 on you I believe, I have to double check. But the more you bring the better, for back up.

Thanks for the info!

I do have a 5-mag nylon belt pouch (*cough* bandolier *cough* ammo belt). It's definitely more suited for a zombie invasion than discreet CCW, so does that violate the spirit of the IDPA premise?

Anyhow, I hope this and my single paddle will suffice for the class. It's not a competition round after all, so hopefully they won't care.

IDPA only allows two reload magazines on the belt in addition to the one in the gun. IDPA stages are not longer than 18 hits so you can get by with one magazine in the gun and one on the belt, if for SSP or ESP with ten in the clip.

You can either wear your one and probably be ok, you can wear the five and just fill the two front cells.

you have he perfect attitude. My group was extremely patient and helpful.
after my first round the instructor came over and said. "You're a good shot, quit worrying about time, it will come with practice, just make sure you dont shoot your foot off the first time.

this put me at ease, I realized i was in this for fun and competetion will come with experience.

the more questions i asked the more hints i got, things to proactice at home; mag switches and draw and point.

i could hardly wait until the next match to get there and it was 6 days away.
