I think have finally completed my L/R Tactical Rifle. I wanted a tactical rifle that is not too cumbersome (realistically not so heavy it turns into a bench only queen like they often do) and has the ability to reach out to 800m unrestricted. And I think I now have it.
I went with the DPMS 7.62 SASS and did so for a number of reasons:
- 7.62 A3 upper (with forward assist)
- JP fully fluted 1:10 stainless barrel
- JP fully adjustable trigger
- JP gas block
- Magpul PRS stock
- Panther Tactical Grip
- 9" Free float rails
- Harris 9-13" Swivel Series Bipod
And they are all standard. This makes these rifles very appealing for those that want a seriously accurate 7.62/.308 rifle right out of the box.
I chose a Leupold Mark 4 Mod 3 10x40mm scope w/ Larue mount. No complaints on this setup. I like that the scope is durable, distance adjustments for rise and drop specifically for 168gr .308, and is easy to operate without much thought. A great combination.
And finally I chose an AAC 762SD suppressor. I wanted a tactical long range rifle that would be easy on the ears. I will admit I do not like wearing ear protection and how can a rifle be tactical if it makes a big racket?!?! Kind of an oxymoron IMO. I also like the fact that the AAC 762SD goes on and off quickly and will not work itself loose like some threaded Cans do.
I just gave the barrel a breaking in period and my initial results are that it is easily MOA. How MOA you ask? I am hoping 3/4 MOA as some have with the JP fluted barrels but only time will tell if mine will fair the same. If it was not raining today I would be out with some Federal Gold Medal 168gr. running 5-shot groups all afternoon.
Overall this rifle appears to be promising and I think I got what I wanted in terms of a great 800m tactical rifle. Will post a comprehensive range report with pics when the weather clears up.
Safe shooting!
