Nice choice! Don't forget when you drop the clip to also rack the slide in order to clear the cartridge in the barrel.
 
23 years ago I got my first handgun. My 4th gun over all. Phoenix hp22a. Still have it. Still shoot it. Shoot it’s replacement a lot more because the original is wore slap out. My kids shoot them as well and enjoy. I hope you have a similar story 23 years from now.
 
My first was an XDm 40 3.8". But one of my long-standing carry guns is my M&P 9C.

If you have an opportunity to sign up and receive training with your new gun from a reputable Instructor in your area I highly recommend it. Good, safe gun handling/shooting habits are easy to learn. Bad ones are potentially dangerous and are often tough to break. ;)
