ok so i haven't bought a gun before

i want to purchase a CZ-75b from BudsGunShop.com, and i want to get the transfer done at the Pawn Shop in town

i talked to the folks there, and they said it would be a $10 charge to use their FFL

now i see no where on Buds that says i have to show my FOID
does that mean i just have to show it to the Pawn Shop people?

and do i have Buds ship the gun to the Pawn Shop? or to my home, and the pawn shop people just do the transfer on paper?

and tips, advice, etc?

now i see no where on Buds that says i have to show my FOID

In what state do you reside?

Typically a firearm purchased from a different state, must be shipped to a local FFL, whereupon it can be transferred to you by filling out a form 4473 and NICS check. But the nuances vary by state. Since you said FOID, I'm gonna guess either Illinois or NJ.

If you live in New Jersey, you can't own the standard capacity 16 round magazines for the CZ-75b.

lol see, theres my ignorance

i didnt even stop to think that FOID was specific to my state

yeah i live in illinois

illinois has a 3 day waiting period on handguns....anyone know if that waiting period starts once that pawn shop receives the gun, or right after it is shipped?

welcome to thr. congrats on your first purchase. we have no foid card nor waiting period on guns here in oregon. i can only guess the waiting period starts when you go to your local shop and do the paperwork.

Maybe someone who's bought from Buds before will chime in here, but the process of buying a firearm online USUALLY goes like this:

1) Find local FFL (Gun dealer) who accepts internet purchased guns. Let them know you're going to purchase a gun online and have it sent to them.
2) Click buy on the site, fill out payment information, shipment information for YOUR LOCAL FFL.
3) Internet Gun shop contacts you by email, phone, fax, etc and asks you to have your Local FFL fax/email/mail them a copy of their FFL to prove that the gun is going to a legal dealer.
4) Internet gun shop receives copy of FFL, processes your payment, and then ships the gun to your local dealer.
5) Gun arrives at your dealer, and you go in, fill out the 4473 (Federal NICS background check), show any necessary local credential (FID, FOID etc) and wait whatever period of time your local ordinances deem necessary because you're a sheep under their fiefdom.
6) After waiting (or not depending on your locale) you walk away with your shiny new (or used) firearm.

Side note: Some areas have restrictions on magazine size, caliber, etc, make sure your desired weapon is legal for your area in it's shipped form, or else there could be a headache.

lvl21 you will have to show your FOID card at the dealer when you go in to fill out the 7743 from mentioned above. IL has that extra step. also has a magazine capacity restriction IIRC, also city of chicago has seoerate laws from the rest of the state.

Buds ships to your local dealer who then follows the federal and peculiar state requirements you're subject to. No guns are shipped to your door unless you have an FFL of some flavor.

i cant find anywhere that illinois has the mag cap restriction

i guess i will have to inquire about that with one of the dealers around here before purchase...ugh i wish i lived in a state like Utah or Kentucky or Texas where there werent so many freekin gun restrictions

Chicago ruins so much for the rest of us Illinoians

i cant find anywhere that illinois has the mag cap restriction

Cook County has a mag restriction, but due to Home Rule, not every town observes this ordnance.

I don't know if any other county in the state has this silliness or not.

Oops! I forgot. Congratulations on your purchase. My CZ 75 is the best shooting gun I have. I'm sure you will be very happy with it.

ty ty i havent purchased it yet, but hopefully i will start the process Monday

a local dealer has the CZ-75c for a very reasonable price, used

but...its not exactly what i want

know what i mean?
