I bought my first in April, and my second in May, and my third and fourth last month.... They are addicting to say the least! I have one Ruger, an old style Blackhawk, and it is a great gun. Magnums are addicting too....
Don't sell your current grips short - you may find that the nicest looking walnut grips don't provide the same positive feel as the ones you already have. I tried some FANCY checkered walnut grips on a S&W .357 and went to the range. I came home, cleaned the revolver and put the Hogues back on.
A great first choice, those revolvers are bulletproof. I say leave the Hogue grips on, they may not look as good at the walnut grips but they're very comfortable to hold and take a lot of the sting out of the magnums.
Love my Sp101 and .357 magnum in general. There are some really hot/fun loads in .357 magnum that your Ruger will handle better than virtually any other revolver.
You know you bought the right gun when you love it much much more after shooting it more.
I finally got around to working up some handloads for this gun and took them to the range yesterday. I also had a box of Buffalo Bore 180 gr.
Fun!
I know it's just a Ruger, nothing fancy, but I'm a little infatuated with this thing now. It also works out nice since my favorite 1911 is out getting some work done so I guess I'm kind of . . . cheating on my 1911's *gasp*
Most days I am carrying a 3" GP100 when I can get away with it. That's in addition, of course, to the 642 in my pocket. Congratulations on purchasing the single most robust revolver platform it has ever been my privilege to shoot.
Congratulations, you picked the perfect first revolver. Its very stout and will run forever and I agree, very enjoyable to shoot. It handles the 357 better than any of my other revolvers.
