I'm kind of excited about this! :) I just bought my first revolver at the gun show this weekend. Its a S&W Model 19-7. I found this website about the Model 19. Sounds like a good gun. It looked very clean and felt pretty tight. Of course, I couldn't remember all of the steps for testing used revolvers... it just felt "good".

Due to the 2-day waiting period in WI, I can't take posssion of it until Monday. In the meantime, can anyone tell me anymore about it? The serial # is something like: 3-39-063-02-6M-17xxx or BRW71xx. I can't really tell which is which because all I have is the receipt.

Congrats on entering the wheel gun world!

Your S/N info - oh Majic has gotten in already!! :)

Spans 1994 thru 1998 ....... appears to have gone round butt 1995-96. 6" barrel ceases 1996 and they started shipping in the blue boxes too

Thanks guys! I can't wait to get it to the range. I'll try to post some pics on Monday afternoon.

Man, I want one of those so bad. Been looking, but most of them are priced way too high!!

Congrats.

I carried a 19 for 2 of my first three years as a new officer. My second agency issued the Model 66 and I carried that for several years after. The 4 inch is a great gun and can be concealed well with a proper holster and belt. I still have a blued 19 that I love to shoot. As a former S & W revolver armorer I always thought the blued guns were smoother and easier to tune. Congratulations on your purchase and I think you will get years of service from it. The only problem with the Smith revolvers is that you will probably want another, and then another, and so on.

LOL - oh great, kind of like what happend when I bought my first AR or first 1911? You mean I'm going to have to go through that again...? ;) Oh well, if I must - I must.

I paid ~$350 after taxes and transfer fees. The original price was $335, he knocked it down to $315 to cover the transfer fee. From what I could find on some of the on-line auction boards, that seems like a fair price. Wish it had the original grips... no biggie.

Everything said here and from that link in my original post makes the Model 19 seem like a real winner. The only negative I've heard is that you don't want to feed it a steady diet of full power magnum loads. That shouldn't be a problem as the primary role for this is going to be for teaching new shooters - so low power .38's are probably all it'll ever have through it.

Finally took delivery. Will get to test fire later in the week. Here are a couple of pics:
