My Grandson was Murdered

This type of tragedy is simply numbing......to have salt rubbed into the wound by the "justice" system is nonsensical.

As a Daddy myself it makes me emotional just thinking about what your family must be going through. I have no words.

God Bless and someday the piece of trash will get his.

My sincerest condolenscences for your loss.

The system being so broken, what would happen if you take matters in your own hands and shoot the bastard? By the same token, you should receive probation, or some such, stating extreme emotional distress, etc. The dull knife fails to cut on both sides... Also, you won't get whacked in prison either.

My own response would probably be to leave him for the jailbirds. Just spread your story around and get major articles in the local newspapers. Legal political means will not off your perp, but will prevent other perps getting off so easily. In the long run, that is far more valuable than the momentary satisfaction of bloody vengeance. Another thing to consider is that your daughter will have other kids who will benefit from having their grampa around.

I'm disgusted.

I'm also sorry your family has been caused such pain by a murderer and the inept county.

I'd be willing to write a letter giving them my unrestrained opinion about their handling of Caleb's case, their lack of funding issue, and their track record regarding 1st degree murder cases.

It may not do any good, but if enough outrage hits the county's doorstep, the just might take notice.

If you like, post or PM the name/address of the person you'd like to receive my letter.

I'll leave you with a quote:

"No one's death comes to pass without making some impression, and those close to the deceased inherit part of the liberated soul and become richer in their humaneness." ~Hermann Broch

Waitone, I’m terribly sorry for your loss. Luckily for me, I can only imagine your pain and grief.

I have to wonder, though. If the Mecklenburg County DA’s office doesn’t have the funding or will to prosecute the murderers of children, then whom does it have the funding and will to prosecute?

Waitone,

Let me join the rest of the THR crowd in expressing my sadness for you and your family, and my outrage at this "sentence" (if indeed it is worth wasting that word upon what has been handed down), which must surely be the most perverse I have ever heard of in my entire life.

My mother in law works in a maximum security prison, and she's worked in other prisons as well. Childkillers don't usually live more than a few months. FWIW.

I am very sorry for your loss, my heartfelt condolences to you, your daughter, the family.

In a perfect world, these types of criminals would find themselves the cellmates of psychotic, homosexual, bodybuilders with satyriasis. If they survived to be released back on the streets, they would have to give up certain activities like, walking across open spaces, living near people, standing near tall trees with perpendicular branches, starting their car....

Unfortunately, we live in an imperfect world and all I can do is offer my condolences and prayers. As the father of 2 toddlers myself, I can't imagine how this oxygen thief could get away with something like this and then get a slap on the wrist. Their needs to be a serious public outcry.

I have 3 daughters and a grandson---if it were me---I'd give him a proper "welcome" back to society upon his release---if he happens to make it out.

But that's just me.

We live in a upside down world when killers go free and illegal aliens get more rights than the natives.

And yes---sorry to hear about your loss.

blood is boiling and can't think of much else to say

This is what happens when we have a legal system, not a justice system.

I suggest contacting as many news programs as you can with your story. Nothing brings pressure to fix something like some unfriendly mass media attention.

Sorry to hearabout your loss. I have a bunch of grandkids myself. Love them all dearly but I think murder is too strong of a word considering they have no evidence. From what I read in your post all they may have is a scapegpoat and a coerced guilty plea.

There's all sorts of ways a kid can suffocate that are not due to the evil intent of others. Almost ended up that way a few times myself growing up.

Words escape me and would be worthless anyway. I will write and have cross posted this to the combat carry forum for members there to jump on the bandwagon if they so desire . May your actions have a positive effect and help bring you and your family some mesure of peace .

My daughter just turned four... If anyone harmed my child... Anyone who harms any child...

Sometimes you just can't put things in writing...

Waitone, that one of the most vile, disgusting and purely evil examples of a complete violation of public trust.

I am given to understand that judges are not obligated to accept a plea deal, so, I ask, why is this judge not being impeached?

Do they still have traffic court where you're at? I can think of plenty of ways to provide for money to be able to prosecute murderers and getting rid of traffic court is one way. That's no better than Washington DC!

I know mandatory sentences bug some, but here's a textbook case for mandatory sentencing.

Keep in mind that Adam Walsh's killers were never found, but his murder has led his father in a crusade that has done immeasurable good in the last two decades. Caleb's murder could have the same result - funnel your righteous anger into fixing what is broke.

As hollow as it sounds, you have our condolensces. What happened is unspeakable, and I cannot fathom your pain. But I have to agree with others, I would be standing outside the gate the day this dirtbag was released, and I would let nature and between 24 and 29 months of rage run it's course. God can only imagine the pain you must feel, and let him guide you to do what is right. I have to imagine he will not live to see his release date, but worse things have happened.

I wonder how many months you'd get for blowing his face through the back of his head. My bet is they'd suddenly find the funding when it came to *YOUR* trial, and there would be no sweet plea deal.

Waitone, thank you for posting this. Like others here, I am deeply saddened for you, your daughter, and all your family and incredibly angry at this injustice.

My anger screams out for revenge against this reprehensible, subhuman character. I can only hope that his prison experience is similar to that of other child killers. They often do not fare well among other prisoners.

For what it's worth, I will write our state attorney general's office to register my complaint about these injustices.

My God, I don't know which emotion to turn to first.

There have been many stories about outrageously light sentences for horrible crimes, but this one may be the topper.

I don't know how you can be so restrained, Waitone. The desire for revenge expressed by others here is more than understandable.

What a sick system.
